Brian May Research Paper
Born in England 1947, Brian May is the lead guitarist and singer for the late 1900s band Queen. He started to love music at a young age of 12 and played the piano and ukulele. His love for music started to burst when he got his first guitar on his seventeenth birthday. Shortly after, him and his father started to create a new one from scratch. The guitar was known as the Red Special, and Brian would use this guitar with a sixpence coin used as a pick. Him and his friends from college, Roger Taylor (Drums) and Tim Staffell (First Bass), formed the band Smile and made a single song called Earth. Shortly after the song was released, Tim Staffell left and soon enough a friend of Staffell joined Smile and renamed it Queen. His name was Freddie Mercury (Lead Singer, Piano) and he became the lead singer of Queen for a long time. Queen kept on looking for Bassists until a man showed up and became the permanent bass player. He was John Deacon and he started to help Queen make songs again. They soon started to make songs that many people know of today such as, “We Will Rock You”, and “Bohemian Rhapsody”. After these songs, many more songs started to appear from Queen, and started to make Queen a famous rock band.

He has also influenced guitarists currently and future guitarists with his amazing music. People have loved Queen’s music and future generations will keep on loving their music. He has become an incredibly famous person in England, and across the world. The big impact was in his guitar books, videos, and songs. His books tell about how the guitar has influenced his life. “The guitar was my weapon, my shield to hide behind” (May). He made an informational video that teaches guitarists how to do riffs very well. Overall, Brian May is a legend that gives and will keep on giving. “I’d like to be viewed as something alive and relevant, and not some fossil”
