Although the United States has anti-corruption laws, companies continue to use bribes as a way of advancing a business deals. Companies such as Lucient Technologies and Siemens have been prosecuted, even in their own countries. Bribery is most certainly an ethical issue in business because companies do it to secure special treatment over its competitors which are forms of cheating and dishonesty.
Another problem is that the person making the bribe sometimes is not in a position to make the bribe, so therefore he makes an executive decision that in the end affects the lives of the people working for the company. When a person makes a decision like that it puts in danger the lives of the employees and that serves as a major ethical issue because people rely on their jobs and bribing jeopardizes the lives of its many employees.
Corruption can even increase the cost of living which is an affect that the common people can’t afford. It even leads to poorly planned projects. Such incidents like the school that collapsed in Haiti could have possibly been a result of corruption by building a school and using bad materials or rushing the project and not properly securing the safety of the school could be considered a serious effect of what corruption can do.
