The History and Impact of the Magna Carta
Magna Carta, the ‘The Great Charter’, is one of the most famous documents in the world.it was Originally issued by King John of England (r.1199-1216) as a practical solution to the political crisis he faced in 1215.Magna Carta established for the first time was a pricible that the principle that everybody, including the king, was subject to the law. Although nearly a third of the text was deleted or substantially rewritten within ten years, and almost all the clauses have been repealed in modern times, Magna Carta remains a cornerstone of the British and American constitution.

His brother Richard I John’s brother had a completely different reputation than what John was known for. John, even at a young age was kwon for being deceiving, sly, and bad tempered. John’s brother on the other hand Richard I aka “the lionheart”, was admired and loved by his people and the spoke very highly of him. Johns brother was intended to rule the empire. This would be changed after Richard had an incident during a siege, ‘the lionheart’ died of ganurene after he was shot with a crossbow bolt. Because of the death of “the lionheart”, unfortunately the throne was passed down to Richards brother John. The Plantagenet dynasty, had no choice now but to hope that John will be a good King. Johns father king pend most of his time during his reign outside of his kingdom and abroad. John on the other hand did the exact opposite from his father and spend most of his reign inside his kingdom. Johns lack of military command and ignorant personality allowed the French to concede Normandy which cut back his empire. This was an embarrassing defeat for the plantagenet empire and to Johns reputation as a King. John was losing territory, he decided to shift his focus to try and reconquer Normandy back from the French. This weekend his government; John poured every single penny into reconquering Normandy. John was very familiar with the system of collecting money and used his knowledge and power to move around the system. He was a man who went around the system to be able to receive taxes that had to be paid. For example, when people wouldn’t pay taxes to him he would take families and loved ones hostage and would torture them until they came up with the money that was owed. He would also entail his barons in massive debts. He started to make it so that he would take peoples land when the taxes weren’t paid. By this he would gain their land by going through the court which only allowed him to make more profit. As king he was entitled to charge his nobals fees known as fines for inheriting land, titles and getting married. He realized and understood that in the long run it would cause a problem but at the time he was
