In addition to creating a more engaging experience for students, an online school would prevent bullying by keeping forth the secret identities of the student.
In the book Wade explains that Keeping the identities of the students would prevent segregation by other students, such as if one of a student’s parents had committed a crime, no one would know to be able to discover the student’s parents. The student would also be able to assume an identity of confidence, such as if they had severe anxiety they could change the settings on their avatar so that no one would see their break apart. As well as preventing bullying, a student could change their avatar to match their gender. For example if a student were transgender, they could chose to use an avatar they could use a gender of avatar that can convey their gender. This would completely destroy all gender stereotypes. Although I believe that school will be open to many avatars, I believe that there will be limits on avatars, such as maybe not choosing to have an orgue avatar in school, in order to prevent distractions. Thirdly the school online school system would allow for a more open learning atmosphere, without any apathy from the students. The student’s wouldn’t show as much apathy because they could simply turn off the emotion features on their avatars, so that even if they feel bored, or apathetic, they can turn off the facial expressions on their avatars. Apathy can also be prevented by allowing students to choose from hundreds of courses, that would allow students to almost never find themselves in a class that they find boring or
useless. In conclusion I believe that the online school system in “Ready Player One” Solves the largest problems of the average school, such as engagement, bullying, and gender stereotypes, and limits found within school.
