There are two parallel storylines in the story. In the first storyline there is a father who is trying to calm down his two children. In the parallel story, there is a storyteller, and he is talking about how this teleport machine is made. The man who made the teleport machine is named Victor Carune, he is an eccentric guy, who has always had a dream and an idea about how he would be able to teleport things through a machine. He made the machine because he wanted to solve some of the environment problems. For example how he could send letters without using any resources, because at that time there were many problems with the environment, because people did …show more content…
not care about the environment. In the first story the father is telling the story while some other people are getting the machine ready, so they can teleport to Mars. In our world today it is unrealistic to be able to travel through a portal, but on the other hand I think that it is realistic, that water, in the future, will be more expensive than oil, because we will be missing clean water.
Maybe the earth will also be a ruin, that the humans cannot live on, and therefore we will have to move to other planets, and live on their resources. Therefore a machine like the one in the story would be practical, but not realistic. We will have to think about how we treat our Earth, or the machine will be necessary, though it will be dangerous. The machine could possibly cost the human race it’s existence. The father in the story knows that it is dangerous, but on the other hand he also knows, that it is only a few people who has gone mad by the machine in the story. They also say that you have to be unconscious when you are going in the portal, or then your will mind stay out in nowhere. However if you are unconscious, your body will only “be away” for about a half second and that will not cause the body any damage. If you are conscious when using the machine, the body will not get any damage, but your mind
will.
The fear is one of the main topics - the fear of being in out in nowhere is not bigger than the fear of dying on the earth . Fear is one of the things all people deal with. Everybody fears something, and that is a part of living. Therefore you can compare the movie 7 to this story - because they are both about the fear of the unknown
One of the other big themes in the story is global warming; this is shown when they talk about the oil price compared to the water price. Now a day the oil is more expensive than water, but the story happens in the future, and there is water the most valuable thing in the whole universe. In the end of the story Ricky screams that The Jaunt was longer than he thought. That is, however, kind of unrealistic, because that would mean that your mind and your body are not together. Then we are out in a religious topic: That there is more between heaven and earth than we think, and that gives a big question - is there more between heaven and earth? I cannot answer that question, no one can, and I do not think that there will be some one who can. But in the end that is one of the main questions about life: What happens after the death?
