Documents 1-2: How do the grievances noted by Arthur Young compare to those expressed in the Cahiers?…
My group is the next to the tee and I can’t stop thinking about how I’m going to hit this first shot. I worry about hitting the ball out-of bounds on the first hit and being down strokes on the first hole. The first group finishes hitting and begins to walk off the tee, I watched how they hit and two of them hit in the fairway and the third person hit it in the rough on the right. Then as my group waited to tee off we flipped the tee to see the order of who teed off.…

My name is Titus Finnbar McGinty and I see dead people. Wait… that phrase is probably, like, copyrighted or some shit, right? Well, it’s the truth. I can see and hear ghosts. I’m called chovihano or awenydd—death talker, medium, witch. I’m considered a Shaman among my people, the Romany—someone to be respected, but feared and held at arm’s length. I left that life behind years ago, but the souls…the ghosts…they followed.…

Vianelly was very engaged throughout the session and she participated by answering questions, in addition to making suggestions. Her speech amount was productive, even and animated; as well as, her voice was throaty and her speech manner was engaging. She spoke about many topics from how she wants to finish school for her children to how not having a mother makes her want to be a better mother; she wants to break the cycle. She sat in the center of the table and her posture was completely slouched sideways, however she was actively listening. Her facial expressions were focused and calm, yet cheerful. Her temperament was relaxed and peaceful. She spoke respectfully to others and was reflective, such as when she stated that she was afraid of…
The Story of Tom Brennan is a first person account of the tragic events and subsequent rewards faced by the Brennan family following a fatal car crash. The poignant theme of fear is continuously portrayed in this novel and it contributes to the struggles that Tom faces. Tom is fearful of the reaction of those in Coghill, this is evident when Tom states, “maybe he’d heard what happened to us in Mumbilli”. Fear is also evident when Tom is questioned by the pool attendant, “I opened my mouth…the sound stuck somewhere in my throat. Here goes I thought.” Tom’s anxiety and perhaps paranoia is evident in this exchange, highlighting the obstacles he had to overcome in order to reap the rewards of moving into a new world.…
Yamacraw lies off the coast of South Carolina right next to Savannah. The only transportation to the isolated island is by boat. The people here have inhabited Yamacraw and count on the sea and the oysters for a living. When Conroy went to Yamacraw, he found a lot of troubles. A local factory in Savannah contaminated all the oysters and drove everyone off the island. The remaining locals are struggling with jobs and shelter.…
As I placed the car into park, turned the key off and stepped into the crisp cold winter air, I begin to feel my pulse raise. With each step we took drawing us closer to the door, I felt my heart beating faster. With a quick turn of the ice cold door knob, I found myself standing in a whole new world. The food, the music, the faces, the language, everything was different than what I knew. For the first time in my life I was the minority in my small home town of Winamac, Indiana.…
The short story “Rikki-tikki-tavi,” by Rudyard Kipling, is a story about a mongoose, named Rikki-tikki-tavi, who faces many obstacles, emotionally and physically. He is separated from his family by a flood, and is also being attacked by an evil snake named Nagaina and her husband Nag. They want to kill Rikki because he is now the family’s new pet, and the snakes hate that family so they want to kill his new adopted family too. Rikki does not let that happen, though, and he will protect them at any cost.…
The title of the poem means a blacksmith. The line presents a contrast between the dark, the older time period of his profession, and the outside, modern world, in which his profession is less visible and honored. The poem uses the image of a blacksmith and the nature of the profession. “Old axles and iron hoops” show that he has been doing this for years. The previous line describes how the older tools are outside, outdated and now unusable they are. In this line however it talks about how although the old and once trusted tools are no longer in use, work is continuing on in the blacksmith’s shop. Their work does not stop just as the times change and new equipment is developed.“The unpredictable fantail of sparks” describes how long the black smith has been working. Being a blacksmith, shifting metal has certain qualities. Such as when the sparks fly.He notices the sparks can symbolize how the sparks seem never ending there are too many of them. This could also be shown as his life in the blacksmith profession, Neverending and unpredictable. This line describes how when something new comes into the blacksmith shop it doesn’t fit in well. The change is not adapted to the shop. This line shows the image of putting a hot horseshoe in cold water, the steam rising up as the cool water hits the heated steel.Describing the ring of the anvil the hiss of the water. It uses sound to tell the reader in the environment and action he is in.The fact that the anvil has to be in the “centre” shows the importance that the blacksmith puts on the anvil. since he later refers to it as an “altar” it relates to the fact that he treats it religiously, its very important. The altar is place in the center so that it can be the center of everything in order to honor the item and give it worship. It is also described with the word “unicorn” gives the anvil a fantastical and mystical quality which also shows that the blacksmith relies on it very much. The anvil is like dark age of…
