At the age of eleven he was taken into slavery and was sold to several masters before being sold to ones that would take him across the ocean.
He was sold to plantation owners in Virginia but then again resold to a sailor, who he was with for years and acquired his education through. Unfortunately he was sold a total of 2 more masters before buying his freedom.
Now a freeman Equiano worked hard and involved himself in politics as an abolitionist and writer. To help to get people to turn against slavery he wrote an autobiography of his life. For years he worked in different ways to stop slavery until his death in 1797.
