What were the causes for Britain’s industrialization?
In the 18th century, Britain became an industrial country, with 50% of its population living in cities and the 40% working in factories. But this didn’t happen from one day to the other, it was part of a process that had been going on for a long time. Which were the causes for this to happen? Some where:
1) Lots of individuals starting up new factories. The population grew rapidly, so there were many people who wanted to get in the industry.
2) Britain was a peaceful country at the time. This is important, because as the country didn’t have to spend money or time in wars.
3) Huge interest in science and technology. This lead to new inventions.
4) Britain had a lot of coal. Coal was needed to power steam engines
5) More banks. This helped because people could now borrow money and invest it in industries.
6) Colonies. Britain’s colonies overseas provided raw materials.
7) Population´s growth. As the population grew, there was a higher demand for industrial goods and there where many workers for factories.
8) More roads and canals. These were important to transport goods.
