The history of British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) goes back to 1926 when Messers Usher Smith and Hadridas Roy opened a branch office of Imperial Tobacco in Moulovi Bazaar to manufacture and sell cigarettes. At that time, one other cigarette manufacturing company Carreras Ltd. Existed in the then East Bengal Cigarette Industry. Imperial Tobacco Company Ltd. had its factories in Shahranpur and Khiddirpur. Other brands of cigarettes came to East Bengal from Calcutta.
