“Sometimes the thing you most want does not happen and sometimes the thing you never expect happens to us.” -Jack Twist- | | |
1.The original image of the wild west, contains two elements: the confrontation of nature and civilization, and of freedom with social constraint. Civilization is what threatens nature; and their move from bondage or constraint into independence, which constitutes the essence of America as a radical European ideal in the 18th and early 19th centuries, is actually what brings civilization into the wild west and so destroys it. In terms of social content, he had a double function: he represented the ideal of individualist freedom pushed into a sort of inescapable jail by the closing of the frontier and the coming of the big corporations.
Cowboys are strong men that sense no fear in their eyes and actions. They live a hard life isolated to the rest of the world, being only them and the nature that can be very unpredictable, you never know when it will be friendly or cruel. The myth of the cowboy describes the cowboy as living a stoic lifestyle. Cowboys depend only on nature, which is their only friend except the horse which is their best friend.
2.The life that Ennis and jack lived was the one that they didn’t wanted to. They had to pretend to be someone else because they were afraid of what others can about them, especially Ennis. While they were in town they believed that is the best to be like the others, just because of the fear that he had. It had been shown to Ennis when he was young, what happens if you try to be who you really are. Ennis’s dad took Ennis and his brother to see the dead body of the man that decided to follow his heart and to be who he really was, just to show them what happens if you are not like the others.
