Brother Caadfeal Quotes
"meeting every man as you find him, for we are all made the same under habit or robe or rags." Is a quote by Brother Cadfeal which explains his nature toward humanity as a whole. With this one sentence he is showing his compassion and his belief in everyone being made in the image of God. Brother Cadfeal is a monk who lived during the 1200s, however his career started with him as a soldier in the army helping others in his own way. Now as a monk he has become a skilled physician who enjoys solving crimes before the authorities. Anyone who has read the book A Morbid Taste for Bones can agree that Brother Cadfeal had many life experiences before becoming a monk, which helped him solve his mysteries. Brother Cadfeal had admirable character with a true desire to help those who can not help themselves. The three most …show more content…
He was more experienced then many of the registered doctors. Even though Cadfeal did not carry the title of doctor he had the knowledge of natural medicine and experience to deal with many illnesses he came across. He helped both brothers and strangers with whatever they may need assistance with, whether that be spiritual or physical. In the Bible it talks about different gifts in 1st Corinthians 12:28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. As many observed he did everything for the Lord and His glory.

Finally brother Cadfeal often investigated mysterious happenings. Cadfeal was a monk who helped to solve murders and other misdeeds, espcially when the authorities were not there. This caused him to get wrapped up in many things he otherwise would not have. Even through all of this he relied on God to help him solve the mysteries. No matter how much experience he had he still knew that God had complete control and would turn to him for

    Charles Darnay Quotes

"'This property and France are lost to me, ' said the nephew sadly; 'I renounce them'" (Chapter 9). This quote indirectly talks Charles Darnay, since it describes one of his decisions. Darnay made the choice to give up his French name and association with his French family because he believes that the family has done wrong and wants nothing to do with it. He changes his name from Evermonde to Darnay in order to hide his French heritage. He later tells the truth to Lucie’s father which is not a good decision because his father and uncle imprisoned Lucie’s father falsely. This shows that Charles is a caring and responsible gentleman who does not only care for money and power because when he gave up his name he was giving up a lavish lifestyle and lots of money. The welfare of the people is more important to him, and he does not want to be associated with a family that has caused them so much harm. In a way this may show slight cowardness in Charles. Yes the name is associated badly but why not show that there is good in the name too. He could have used the money to help others and show that he was willing to pay for his relative’s mistakes yet he hides and wants nothing to do with it. He ran from the problem.…

The Klondike Gold Rush was a time of fortune and misery. Some who were lucky brought gold home and some didn't even get to the gold because they got lost on their way. In the this piece the author stated that’ “Most stampeders knew little or nothing about where they were going, so pamphlets were available to help them on their way. Many of the pamphlets contained little or no real information and made outrageous claims of wealth” (paragraph 2). This quote explains that the miners just went to find gold but had no idea where they were going so they never found any gold.…

"Yes the motherfucker looks so deadly it makes me giggle and blush." (155) Weapons play an important role in war. Not only do they protect and kill, but they provide a feeling of comfort to a soldier because the soldiers are in control of their weapons. During the Gulf War in Iraq, soldiers were excited by their deadly weapons as described in the pervious quote. In the book Jarhead, a memoir by Anthony Swafford, soldiers have intense relationships with their weapons. Swafford constantly describes the many guns he carries, the process of cleaning his weapons and how they use them. Swafford's fear of dying triggers his obsession with weapons because they are the only aspect of the war he can control to stay alive. Even after the war is…

Tom Weylin and his wife, Margaret, both resent Dana because she is an educated black woman with proper dialect. The wife even goes as far as throwing coffee on her and slapping her, while the husband sends flirtatious signs her way and even tries to buy her, but Dana refuses. Dana tells Kevin of these experiences on the plantation, and he tells her she needs to leave, but she only agrees to leave when Rufus’s leg has fully healed. Nigel, who is a thirteen year old slave on Weylin’s plantation asks Dana to teach him how to read and write, and she agrees to, but makes sure he understand the dangerous consequences of their wrong-doing. Imagine the fierce red eyes of a weasel-like creature following your every move. This grizzled furred omnivore is someone you shouldn’t mess with, especially if it’s Rikki Tikki Tavi. Rikki Tikki Tavi, by Rudyard Kipling, is a story about Rikki Tikki, a young, feisty mongoose, who comes wandering into a bungalow in India, which he then runs into some inferious beasts in the garden, Nag and Nagaina, a pair of 5-foot long King Cobras. Likewise, it leads RIkki TIkki into warding off the 2 from the garden behind the bungalow, even if it leads to death. Although Rikki Tikki seems like a hero for the creatures dwelling in the garden, he might not seem as thorough and gallant as you might think at a first glance. Rikki Tikki´s shows many character…

“In 1860, when I ran from the plantation in Virginia, I decided to be twelve years old. COuld’ve been anywhere from nine to fourteen, but as Frederick Douglass, that great man, said, you might as well ask a horse how old he is as a slave” (Stolz 3). This quote was said by Cezanne Pinto, the main character of the historical novel, Cezanne Pinto, about a young slave living on a plantation in Virginia with high hopes of freedom and an education. Originally born Deucy Clayburn, Cezanne spent his time as a slave working in the stables due to his gift with horses. The story is told from the point of view of an approximately ninety-year-old Cezanne, reflecting on his journeys with the cook, Tamar, to escape slavery. Although he faces many hardships of discrimination, he never let it get in the way of his dreams. In the end, the old man rests in peace with the satisfaction of living a…

    Guyland Quotes

Guyland can be defined as the world in which young men live (Kimmel 2008, pg. 4). It’s a stage these young men go through from the time they hit adolescence to the time they enter manhood (from about 15 to 26). It’s a world where guys just act as guys, untouched by the adult life of parents, jobs, kids, girlfriends, etc. Kimmel (2008) describes it as a “Peter-Pan mindset”, where these kids live in a realm of fun and freedom and never want to grow up. Guyland is the world young men grow up in, and is a passage they navigate through from adolescence to adulthood. It can also be described as what men do for fun. In this world, they do nothing but drink, have sex,…

    John Edgar Wideman Quotes

Writer Chloe Rattray once said, “People aren't always what you want them to be. Sometimes they disappoint you or let you down, but you have to give them a chance first.” This quote may be interpreted as how just a small push of encouragement can help a person reach their goals. The quote is also relatable to John Edgar Wideman, author of “Our Time.” In his essay, Wideman speaks of his gangster brother, Robby, and the bad decisions he made. However, instead of helping his younger brother during his rough patches, Wideman stays in another city and does not involve himself with his family, especially his brother. If Wideman had encouraged Robby to stop his gangster ways, Robby most likely would have discontinued his criminal acts. In the end,…

This quote talks about how both Bernard and John feel alone in the society and John always thought in Bernard's world no one was alone. Which makes sense because even if you live in a perfect community or perfect world there will always be a few people that don't feel like they belong. I feel like the reason most people in Bernard's world feel like they belong is because they have soma and soma gets rid of all the feelings people don't won't like feeling sad unwanted scared any of those emotions, but Bernard doesn't take soma. Even if people live different we all feel the same emotions and I feel like the writer tried to show that in the quote. (121)…
