Brother in the Land
Character Sketch
Danny:
Danny is a main character of the play. He is a fifteen year old teenager who is a resident of Skipley. He is a son of Richard and Marry Lodge. He also had a brother Ben. Danny is a round character as he does not remain the same throughout the play. There was a huge difference in his personality after the nuclear war.
Danny is a strong and brave boy. When Chris and Tracey were trying to steal Kim’s food, Danny helped Kim fight the thieves and get her food back. Danny was brave enough to go on the ambush even though his father had been killed in one. He was very loyal. When Danny was captured by the Civil Defence Team, Danny did not tell a word about MASADA although he was badly beaten and was given a threat for his life. Danny was kind and helpful. He saved Mrs. Troy and Craig from the Goths. Danny was optimistic. When the Civil Defence Team came, Danny thought that they would save them, but they didn’t. He became responsible after the war and after his mother and father’s death he became the guardian of his little brother. Danny had a good sense of humour. He was a good observer and clever. When Danny was taken prisoner by the Civil Defence Team, he got a good look around the farm and when MASADA was planning to capture the Civil Defence Team, Danny helped a lot in planning the ambush.
Kim:
Kim is another main character of the play. She was a fifteen year old teenage girl who lived in Skipley. She was Maureen’s sister and Danny’s friend.
Kim was very short tempered. When she got her bag back from Chris, she was about to kill Chris but Danny was able to stop her. Kim was kind. When Ben said that he was hungry, Kim gave her bowl of food to him. She was fearless. She volunteered for the ambush and despite Danny’s pleas to stay, she stayed determined to go. Kim was farsighted; she could see what others could not see. She always thought negative.
Ben:
Ben was Danny’s five year old brother. He was the youngest member of the

The older Kevin’s narration both expands on the situation that we are watching and reflects on it through knowledge that he’s gained in the years since. It helps to offer a deeper level of depth than would be expected from a show with such a young cast. Kevin’s best friend Paul is the poster boy for the stereotypical nerd: a Jewish-American lanky young man with low self-confidence and what he claims to be an allergy to just about everything as revealed in the Pilot where he has to eat plain white bread at dinner with the Arnold’s due to being allergic to both meatloaf and salad. Winnie Cooper, Kevin’s constant love interest throughout the show, Winnie Cooper is depicted as being the epitome of innocence. In Kevin’s eyes, which are certainly biased, she is the perfect woman and no matter how many girls he dates throughout the series run, he constantly finds himself getting back with her. Kevin’s father Jack is a Korean War vet who now works as a management job for Norcom, a defense contracting company who Kevin’s sister Karen claims on a couple occasions that they manufacture micro weapons much to her disdain. Karen starts as a hippie in the beginning of the show and continues to mature eventually enrolling in College(“Growing Up” S4:E1). Kevin’s mom Norma starts out in a typical housewife role…

Hisham Matar’s 2009 novel, In The Country of Men, offers up the narrative of a child, Suleiman, a boy living under a dictatorship and a family that keeps secrets from him. Through Suleiman, Matar reveals an interpretation of life under a dictatorship through expressing a child’s experiences and views of betrayal and loyalty. Matar symbolizes this child as the nation under a dictatorship. In particular, Matar attempts to further express the transformation of people living under a dictatorship by symbolizing the child, Suleiman’s, through many encounters with betrayals and secrets from his family members, conversion from a naive, ignorant, and subdued boy to an exposed and even malicious and powerful “man”.…

The Characters are so important in this play just like the Protagonist there are three people that are the protagonists in this play and Maggie, brick, and big daddy are the protagonists and they play really good roles in this play to make it look like a very good play. And I think that’s why they made it so good. The Antagonists are Gooper and Mae Pollitt and in this play they are talking about how big daddy don’t want to tell them that he has cancer cause it will just kill the whole family and they won’t know what to do without him. The Supporting characters is the children and them just being in the play and supporting them in whatever they do and whatever they need the children will help with everything. The Minor characters are the servants and they will do whatever they are told anytime of the day so that’s why they are the minor characters in this play.…

The brevity of the two words had not fallen short of having miles of meaning behind them. They had gathered the meaning of the novel into one and in doing so, served a greater purpose to the reader, who is essentially being represented in the novel through the ward patients. There is no getting around the symbolic use of the combine as society, an inescapable concept in which we all have been placed . Randle McMurphy is our best selves- the difficulty found in how we get to access that part in ourselves amidst such a pressured setting .In the ward, Nurse Ratched holds the most amount of power above not only the patients, but the other people that work there as well such as the doctor; she does this through holding fear above them. As humans, we tend to fall…
