Disney movies have become the new family amusement. This films are made for young children because of what they demonstrate. When children watch Disney movies, especially young girls, it can affect their understanding on how they should act at a young age. Snow White is a tale about a young beautiful girl who lives with her stepmother, the queen. Snow White’s beauty triggers her stepmother to be jealous of her, and the queen orders for the murder of her innocent stepdaughter. Later she discovers that Snow White is still alive and hiding in a cottage with seven friendly little miners. Disguising herself as an old-women, the queen brings a poisoned apple to Snow White, who falls into a death-like sleep that can be broken only by a kiss from the prince. Today's new lifestyle is teaching young girls that their beauty is more valuable than…

For the past seventy-eight years, Disney has been creating disney princess movies, a phenomenon that has swept the world, with worldwide gross of up to six hundred million dollars. Little girls from the age of two watch and enjoy these chauvinist movies, spending hundreds on outfits so that they can resemble their most idealized princess. The official disney princess line-up includes Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, and Merida. While a single caucasian girl’s dream is blossoming, dreaming about the multiple princesses she could grow up to be, an african american girl’s is falling to pieces, with only a single idealized role model to chose from. While a child yearns for a prince to sweep…
In “Snow White and Her Wicked Stepmother”, Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar formulate the cycle in which fairy tale women are subjected by the patriarchal society’s imprisonment, then turned against each other so they remain in power and are destined to repeat the cycle. Gilbert and Gubar examine how a sexual reference, like “she pricks her finger, and bleeds”, begins the cycle of the metamorphoses of the mother “into a wicked ‘step’ mother” (Gilbert Gubar 292). The wicked stepmother then tries many times to kill Snow White, through various “female devices” such as tight laces, a comb and an apple (Gilbert Gubar 294). Both women are imprisoned by “transparent enclosures” given to them by men; the Queen is trapped by her mirror, while Snow is trapped by her glass…

The fairy tale Snow White by the Grimm brothers describes Snow White as a girl who is beautiful due to her youth rather than actual appearances as seen often in the other retellings. Snow White who is vastly younger than the queen is made out to be the most beautiful in the land which is made to seem as if it is because of her age. This sexualizing of a child brings the idea of pedophilia, where Snow White is being coveted as a being of finer beauty than that of a woman. The time that passes throughout the book is not clearly said but can be deduced that only a few months to a year has passed since she left the castle to when the prince crosses her path and marvels at the young girl and decides at once that he must have her as his even though she is still a child of either eight or seven.…
Throughout Tim Burton’s movies, you can see his techniques evolve and become what is known as Tim Burton’s style. Burton’s movies have become a popular style, and his movies always bring crowds to the theaters. His fame grew with the production of Edward Scissorhands, from then, his techniques only grew, developing into his own unique style that many try to imitate. Several of his most obvious and aggressive techniques are his use of lighting, music, and colors. I am using several examples from his movies, Edward Scissorhands, Big fish, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In this essay, I will be analyzing and discussing Tim Burton’s cinematic techniques.…
When perusing “Little Snow-White” from a feminist perspective it is evident that the purpose of the story is to “shape girls perceptions to conform to a gendered identity through stereotypical characters like the wicked mother and beautiful, helpless daughter” (Mikkijoiner). Snow White is recognized only for her beauty and ability to do housework; presented as an attractive, “demure and submissive” female (Mikkijoiner).…
The greatest directors of our time often have a "trademark" style that audience members come to recognize and connect with them. Tim Burton is among such directors along with JJ Abrams and Oliver Stone; both of which have a brilliantly unique style. The protagonist in Burton's films frequently reveal his emotions and the way he sees the world. In his films he creates a recurring theme about outsiders and how they fit in this crazy, mixed up place. It is clear in Edward Scissor Hands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Corpse Bride, that people fear change and the great unknown. Burton gives light to vastly suppressed outsider perspectives and teaches an important lesson about difference and all that it brings. He uses cinematic techniques such as emotional close-ups, contrasted lighting, and non-diegetic music in order to create gothic fairy tales revealing the cliché that not everything is the way it seems.…
Princess themed fairytales have great influence on children’s books, movies, and television shows. In 1937 Disney released ‘Snow White and the seven dwarfs’ the first full length cell-animated film in motion picture history. It is based on the Brothers Grimm German fairytale, and it is also the debut of Disney’s very first marketed princess. Since then Disney has created their own princess line using characters from popular movies such as Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and so forth. Disney has received criticisms and created much controversy over the values instilled in these movies. Many of the Disney princess movies…

For hundreds of years the Grimm brothers fairy tales have been captivating readers all over the world. Although the Grimm brothers would surely be pleased with how their work has become spread throughout the world since their deaths, there is one thing that they would likely hate, and that is Disney's rewriting and changing of their fairy tales original forms to children's movies with no regard for the original aspects. Disney has taken two mens life work and turned it into something those men would be ashamed to be associated with.…
