Stephen Sondheim looked around, “What a mess Andrew Lloyd has made.” 4. Harold Bloom claims that piercing Batman’s identity is key to the character’s subconscious, “He never claims publicly to be anybody other than Bruce Wayne.” To the world at large, Batman is a hero. 5.…
Throughout history every society has had their own heroes of myth and legend; from the Greek heroes of Hercules and Achilles, to the Medieval English heroes King Arthur and Lancelot, and the Early American heroes of Paul Bunyan and Daniel Boone, there have always been and there will always be heroes. Heroes are pillars of a societies values, what a society finds important is what will be found in the overall makeup of the heroes themselves. In today’s society, we have two heroes of comic book legend that stand above all others—Batman and Spider-Man.…
A wealthy philanthropist, Thomas Wayne, his wife, Martha, and their 8 year-old son, Bruce Wayne, were coming out of a movie theater at 10:47 p.m. As they stepped onto Park Row (now called Crime Alley), a thug named Joe Chill armed with a gun approached them from the shadows to steal the pearl necklace Martha was wearing. Thomas, moving in to protect his wife, was shot by Chill, causing Martha to scream. Chill then shot her, while shouting, "this'll shut you up!". Bruce, traumatized by the deaths of his parents, would never be the same. Afterward, Bruce was raised by his wise and loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth, and inherited his family's vast fortune as well as his father's company, Wayne Enterprises. Standing at his parents' gravestones, Bruce…
The novel, Wayne of Gotham by Tracy Hickman explores the ancestry of Bruce Wayne while utilizing his detective skills. I chose this book because Batman is my favorite character and I think that the graphic novels along with books paint a broader picture of the character. Batman is after all, the world’s “best detective” in the DC Comics world. The story starts in the cave with Bruce Wayne’s grandfather teaching his son Thomas Wayne to be a man by shooting the creatures of the night “bats” with a gun (Hickman, 2012, pp. 1-5). The story is definitely for avid fans of Batman, but can be enjoyed by newcomers. Bruce Patrick Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth and Detective James Gordon are players in a story that unravels a dark hidden secret of the Wayne…
Batman didn’t really have any were superhuman detective skills, and he was just very smart at making decision. Batman also had a sidekick named Dick. We all know him as Robin. Bruce and Dick were as unstoppable forces. Batman main goal was to fight the bad guys and clean up the city of Gotham and destroy his parent killer. When Bruce met a police officer; that, seem to be pretty honest in Gotham city helped him to be confident in the law. The police department wanted to capture batman and James Gordon was the one he could trust. Batman had a lot of criminals to fight and a mad scientist who had monsters to do his work for him was one of his challengers. He also had to go against villain like the Joker, the penguin, and the crazy mister freeze. Bruce faced his fears of bats by becoming batman and fighting crime. Bruce met Robin during the time he became batman. Bruce taught Robin (Dick) how to grow up and be a man. Robin followed in batman’s footsteps. Bruce watched his parents get killed in front of him. He was able to destroy his killers, but in was able to clean up Gotham from crime. Batman goal…
Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman The World’s Greatest Detective or The Dark Knight, is best described as an archetypal hero. Batman, the common favorite of comic book nerds, depicts many of the characteristics of an archetypal hero.…
Bruce Wayne, after reaching a certain age, travels around the world and starts exploring and studying world philosophies and becomes a master of various martial arts, as seen in Batman Begins, in order to be able to stand a chance against people like Jack Napier.…
“It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman!” For decades comic book characters such as Superman, The Incredible Hulk, Batman, and Wonder Woman have captured the imaginations of American children and adults alike. “Superheroes,” they have been coined. But these figures only exist in our imaginations. Batman is not really there to save us from villains such as the Joker and the Riddler. Because these heroes are fictional, we are left without real life heroes… or are we? The answer is clearly no. Heroes are all around us. They can be courageous, intelligent, strong or daring, but heroes to me are selfless and brave.…
Bruce Wayne was the only child in his household, living with his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne along with their butler Alfred Pennyworth. Growing up, he had a strong bond with his family as well as a strong friendship with Rachel Dawes, the daughter of one of their domestic servants. Even as an adult, he and Alfred manage to have a close mutual relationship. As a young child, Bruce had also developed a fear of bats, which originated after he was playing with Rachel in their greenhouse and he accidentally fell into a cave where he stumbled onto a massive swarm of bats. This fear was amplified even further when he and his parents were in an Opera House and Bruce sees a Bat like creature on stage and wanted to leave the theatre. Bruce’s stressor…
As a child I always felt as if a superhero, was someone who has some type of superpower such as: Laser vision, ability to climb walls, even super strength. In farther research I founded that a hero is someone who certain traits as: courage, determination, also have the ability to protect their people. Beowulf a Batman are both a hero, but they have different ways of showing us their traits. Batman a young child seen his mother and father die at 10. Beowulf was the son of Edgetho and the nephew to Higlac, he come from a power heritage. Batman inherited his father company, which was called Wayne Enterprise he used the money from the company to fight crime in Gotham City. Beowulf was born noble at birth. In the text “Shield has fathers a famous…
Protagonist – In the movie, The Dark Knight Rises, there is Batman. He is a well-known superhero who protects the city of Gotham. He dresses as a bat, is a billionaire, and has tons of weapons to defeat bad guys. Although many people are not superhero’s, Batman is a great example of a protagonist because of what he goes through. Many can sympathize with his need to help or his isolation…
Over spring break I went shopping at the Hanford mall for more clothes, and me and my grandmother went to the movies to watch “Batman v Superman”. The only place that I went besides Hanford was Tulare to visit with my extended family for Easter. On Easter i went over to my aunt and uncle’s house, and arranged an easter egg hunt for my little cousins then later barbecued and told stories. I currently have quite good grades I am happy with most of my grades, although I believe I can improve one of them. My goal by the end of this year is to be fully signed up for the Navy, or a college if I do not qualify for the Navy.…
Batman is unlike many superheroes; he has no super powers, instead relies on his knowledge of science, detective sills and athletic abilities. No one but his butler, HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Pennyworth" \o "Alfred Pennyworth" Alfred Pennyworth, however for I can tell you who he actually is. He is Bruce Wayne. The world’s greatest, wealthiest detective and business man. He is the last person you would’ve imagined.…
The movie Batman Begins, is about a hero named Batman, who saves Gotham City from The League of Shadows as they try to poison the city with a gas that causes panic. Batman, is a popular hero in todays culture, as he fights crime and saves people’s lives. Although this is a good example of a hero, this is not the only way a hero should be viewed. A hero doesn’t just save people's lives, a hero can also be someone who touches someone's life, and inspires them by their actions.…
Most all baby boomers in America grew up reading comic books, watching Saturday morning cartoons and playing games related to our favorite comic book characters. Times have changed now and there are many more things for our children to do in their spare time like play video games which were not available to baby boomers for the most part. We used to get up early every Saturday morning because that was the only time cartoons were shown on television and we did not have as many channels to watch. Now, cartoons can be seen 24 hours a day on numerous channels. There were and still are a great number of superhero characters but perhaps the most popular in my opinion were and still are Superman, Batman and Spider-Man.…
