TASK 1 – REPORT

Goods to export
6.480 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc Wine 0,75 L per bottle. (1 container of 20 ft containing 15 pallets x 36 cases x 12 bottles).
Method of transport
Shipping by sea is the most economical option, and in this case even if not the quickest option, no problem because it is not a burden that needs to get to the point of arrival urgently.
There are a large variety of specialized ships that can accommodate everything from bulk commodities to liquids, perishable items, and dry goods, ensuring the safety of the goods on arrival.
Therefore the transport of wine by sea would appear to offer several advantages without necessarily compromising its quality.
Packaging and stowage
Wine producers exporting their produce overseas have to decide on the logistics of transportation. The wine can be bottled at source, the bottles boxed into cases and packed into a large container. The container will be transported by truck to a suitable port for shipment to the export market.

Traditionally wine was seen as a “pretentious” product in U.S, but by the late 1990’s to early 2000’s, wine started to become a popular social drink for the masses. In addition, the market became more adventurous, demanding unusual “undervalued” wines instead of the traditional wines such as Chardonnay. The adventurousness was driven by “Generation X” and created a significant opportunity for wineries to meet this new unconventional demand. As the industry is still currently in its growth stage, the industry attractiveness is high. Wine is a relatively high margin product, and there is increasing demand domestically and internationally. Because of…

With the slow growth in domestic wine sales, accompanied by an oversupply of wine grapes export markets have become a key driver in sales growth. Watershed has focused its marketing efforts on Asia and in particular China. The high Australian dollar has impeded export growth, however exports remain the primary source of growth for premium wine sales.…

The size of the wine market in the U.S., measured by tonnage, is estimated to be 2.5 million tons of crushed wine grapes in 1998. About half of the tonnages crushed are red wine grapes and the other half are white wine grapes. The best wineries are located in the Napa Valley and Sonoma region, whose wines receive high praises from critics. The per capita wine consumption in the U.S. is only about 2.02 gallons per adult as compared to 16.2 gallons in France and 15.8 gallons in Italy. Thus, demand for wines in the U.S. has huge potential for continued growth. At the same time, there is increasing demand for U.S.-made wines abroad.…

In the next section, the author talks about how the idea behind the local foods movement is slowly permeating into the wine world. During the industrial boom in the 1800’s, the main contributing factors to the growth of the country were the railroad, the discovery of oil and the immigration from other countries. Between 1860 and 1900 the urban population more than tripled in city areas. The most common immigrants were Chinese and Irish people. Through the discovery and rapid expansion of oil towns, the railroads and factories were working full pace to keep up with the demand for products. The railroad was also a large contributing factor in the extension of the American country.…
