Working as a Helper Introduction. The motivational reasoning for people to take on a lifelong career in human services depends on the individual. There are different motivational reasons, of course, but they can be narrowed down to three major categories. The desire to work as a helper, desire for self exploration, and exerting control within society are the most recognized reasons of motivation. The next five paragraphs support the notion that the women in Learning Team “B” have different, (yet very similar) reasons for joining the human services force.
Corttanne:
I chose the helping field because I want to help others that are in need. People often procrastinate when trying to help themselves, and are afraid of being judged. I want to show the world that it is okay if you have a problem; everyone has issues. I want to give them all of the advice, love, resources and whatever it takes to get the clients back in shape and get them back to their prior state of being.

As a teacher, I often wonder what I can do to help my community more and be an even bigger impact to the communities around me.
As I thought about this, repeatedly, I came up with the thought of being a person that can be helpful over all. I not only want to help children but I would like to help adults also. I felt that I could become a social worker and many other things. I know that I can make a great change in my community and surrounding areas. I chose this field because I have always had a passion of helping others and learning new things, because each person always brings something new to the
table.
Alexandria:
I chose to enter the human service field simply because I love helping people. My job as a Family Engagement Specialist provides me with having some experience on helping the families of the community-based school 's program. Although, I do have other plans after receiving my degree, I want to become a case manager for the Child Protective Services. It can be a tough and somewhat sad job, but I would love to help the babies that are born to mothers that abused drugs during their pregnancy. It has always been a passion of mine to help those in need, especially if those in need of help are newborn babies. Newborn babies have no voice to express what they feel, need, and want; so it will be up to me to be their voice and serve proper justice.
Victoria:
I chose to enter the helping field because I want to help children. Too many children have died needlessly because either no one saw the signs or it was too late. I have four children who are my whole life and I am very sad that there are parents and caregivers out there who do not feel the same. These children need someone to listen to them and help when needed.
Ashley:
My background in receiving assistance for medical, mental health, and food benefits serve as my motivation to study human services and pursue a career as a counselor. I realized it was my calling to help others who I can personally relate to, and those in need of areas I am all too familiar with. It is a goal of mine to change the world and be a part of the social, rehabilitation, mental health care, child welfare, and economical revolution. A future in human services work will aid me in my quest to provide quality care and services for individuals and families in need. Conclusion. In conclusion, choosing to work in human services is more than just a paycheck. People who are helpers in society do not necessarily focus on their pay; but rather the satisfaction of making a difference in someone 's life.
