Target

P1; Describe Growth, the principles of development, stages and sequences of growth and development in children.

Briefly overview the unit 1 assignment –
1) to explain the normal sequence of development from 0-16 in the age ranges: 0-3, 3-7, 7-12, 12-16 yrs
2) to explain factors which affect development (which must include maturity)
3) to understand the purpose of observations and how they are carried out (undertaking some on placement)
4) to understand how planning is carried out and to create an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for a child

Highlight how they will do the tasks – in college lesson, backed up by workshop and homework… and carry out child observations on first placement and to use their information to create an ILP in second placement

Get the students to think about how they will present their evidence – encourage students to label and file all the work they do, even the in-coming tasks. They can type up the work if they wish in their own time, but not compulsory
