Keeping clothing loose and comfortable maintains the calm, as uncomfortable clothing could be a distraction during meditation. Meditation instruction and the Chenrezig Sadhana are open to the general public; it is not restricted to practicing Buddhists. Those observing or participating are asked to be courteous to others, and to restrict their own behaviors to conform to the religious environment. The leader communicated the chants and set the archetype for those practicing who were new to the experience. The rest of the group, which joined in with the leader’s energy, was able to thus be in sync and not distract others in meditation because of their unity. The leader also serves to keep individuals on task in their own meditation, as he or she may fall behind the rest of the group in the case that he or she became distracted, thus increasing the level of focus for those involved.
