Be sure to include local issues unique to the district or region. Complete a Patriot Policy Priorities worksheet to be used by NRCC staff to evaluate legislative priorities for the current Congress and to promote and advocate for those priorities where appropriate.…
Major public policy issue; Gay & Lesbian marriage -many people versus the state law suits are now being heard at the Supreme Court. Congress is in a current session to create or deny their rights to be married.…
The issue I took from her website is that of Transportation as it has the most effect upon me personally. On this one particular issue I believe she has done quite well. She introduced HB 2468, the Safe Streets Act to the 113th Congress and she has been a strong "advocate for a federal complete streets policy that would ensure our roadways are designed with all users in mind – including bicyclists and pedestrians, children, seniors, and the disabled." (Matsui, 2014). Her biggest failing is that she is beholding to her Democratic Party and she does not consider her entire constituency as a whole. The Democratic Party has considered this district Safe for four decades and it is unlikely to see any new blood enter the ring so to speak any time soon. Doris married into and then inherited the district from her husband and it is safe to say the district has her until death do us part as well. I never vote based on one issue and although I feel she represents this issue quite well, I am highly unlikely to ever vote for her.…
It was just another Friday night at a barber shop in Columbia, S.C. Two men, armed and dangerous, rushed in guns flying, intending to rob the shop. One customer was not about to let it happen. He sat in the barber's chair, hands up until both suspects were not paying attention, when either took their eyes off him he reached for his concealed weapon and fired on the two. As they fled he managed to kill one and the other got away. Thus, none of the customers were injured. With gun violence at an all time high, the people of America are becoming aghast of weapons. Gun owners and their weapons should not be hassled with the thought of change in stricter gun laws.…
For years, people in the United States of America have been allowed to own firearms. This was a right given to them by the constitution, and if the person met all the requirements for a gun. But, within the last couple of years people who are not legally allowed to own a gun in the United States have found different ways in which to obtain one. Some ways in which people are able get guns appears to be perfectly legal, but when looked at closely it can be seen that this way of purchasing is not so legal. The ways in which people are able to illegally obtain guns is through gun shows, private sellers and the black market.…
An indepth project such as The Connecting the Branches on Gun Control, required a great amount of time and effort. As the project progressed I learn a lot, not only on the subject I was studying and reporting on, but also how to find a use useful information pertaining to the hot button topic of Gun Control in America. Firstly, I feel as though it is important to know that I went into this project with a fairly extensive amount of knowledge on the topic, and fairly well established beliefs pertaining to guns. While, I still completely believe in expanding legislation on gun control. To have a well-rounded project it was crucial to research all information, not just articles and reports that take a more liberal stance on the topic.…
If I were elected, I would focus on ways to improve these the most. Crime and Violence, Women’s Rights’, Immigration Laws, Government Spending, and Gay Marriage…
Character traits are not the only things voters must look at while deciding which candidate to support. Voters should gather information about the candidates and collect any records they can find on them. They should look at the candidates’ background and their experience and determine how prepared the candidate is for the job. They must observe the candidates’ campaigns and see if they give speeches to different groups, even those groups that may disagree with the candidates’ views on issues.…
Currently there are no laws or regulations in place that require private sales, gun show sales or internet sales to perform a background check during a firearm purchase unlike federally licensed firearm dealers. This leaves a loophole open for criminals to purchase firearms leading to more gun violence such as mass shooting and robberies. Gun violence can be reduced by requiring background checks for all guns sales, expanding background checks to include mental health status, and better reporting by law enforcement agencies to maintain accurate information in the database.…
Do Americans citizens want guns illegally circulating in their community? Individuals and criminals purchase guns illegally every day. This type of conduct puts everyone at risk. This would include the law enforcement men, and women who take the oath to protect, and serve these communities. With over 30,000 people dying each year from firearms, gun control laws save lives despite the “Second Amendment” right to bear arms.…
There is a old saying that guns dont kill people, people kill people. This is a known saying that comes out all the time when this conversation pops up.The media portrays gun control in a positive light, they believe that this is something that would work; I believe that gun control will never work and giving people guns to protect themselves and taking guns from people the public judges or deems unfit is a terrible idea. It is unsafe, and also endangering people's lives and is unfair, plus it is going against the second amendment which many have died to protect.…
One final important stance is the issue of Obama Care. To no ones surprise we find that he opposes it as well, and one of his first promises before being sworn into office was to repeal and oppose it. Through his term he has made at least 40 attempts to repeal part or all of Obama care. In which he voted for H.R. 596 Repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Health Care-Related Provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.…
Since 1982, at least sixty-two mass shootings have occurred, thirty-two of them since 2006. (Aronsen). Jared Loughner was sentenced to life in prison after shooting nineteen people in January of 2011. Last July, fifty-eight people were shot and twelve killed while watching the new Batman movie in a theater in Colorado. In December, twenty-six people were murdered, including twenty first-graders, in a Connecticut elementary school (Follman). The issue of gun violence only becomes relevant after a horrific event such as these, then fades from public concern after about two weeks. The number of injuries and murders using guns in the United States is a large number, which can hopefully be lowered by implementing statewide, or even nationwide gun buyback programs, stricter carrying permit laws, and making it harder for the mentally unstable and convicted felons to legally obtain guns.…
Gun Control is a set of laws or policies that limits the making, sales, trade, possession, modification, and use of guns. Gun control first became an issue in 1934 with wars of gangs. Because of this the first gun control act was passed. The national firearm act of 1934, this act is a long series of measures trying to stop the spread of increasingly destructive firearms in gang violence. Gang violence is a big cause of gun control now. Whats to supposed to help or stop the use of guns in gangs are not working at all. This act was not really enforced enough, Gangs then and today use gun illegally as if a law was never made. Theres also been various number of school shootings that has a huge impact on others. Therefor Gun control is a huge issue…
Gun control is a huge political topic and it is often debated whether gun control policies should be more lenient or more restrictive to better protect citizens. An innumerable amount of research has been conducted to find a solution to the debates concerning gun control and gun violence. Researchers have found that some states with stricter gun laws have experienced higher crime rates, while other states have experienced a decline in crime rates. It is strenuous to determine the exact deterrence level that strict gun laws have on levels if violent crimes without it being controversial or bias.…
