SPEECH
Introduction: Write out the full introduction word for word. I am going to be talking about three different benefits that come from building muscle, and why I feel most people should incorporate muscle building into their work outs. Now I know that not everyone is too concerned with working out, and some people may not care to make it a priority, or others may feel that the topic of being healthy is “overdone” because people already know that working out is something they should be doing, But after I inform you of some of the great benefits of building muscle, …show more content…
I hope it will encourage many others to want to try it out for themselves. The three points that I will discus today are first: how building muscle can increase your capabilities in your day to day routines, second is the protection against chronic disease that comes from building muscle, and third my most favorite benefit is how muscle can help with weight management, all while eating the foods that you love.
o Attention Grabber – My favorite quote comes from famous Fitness Model Jamie Eason who is an icon to many mothers in the United States.
Jamie often refers to muscle as the “fountain of youth”. She explains that building muscle is open quote “an antigravity miracle that helps tighten and tone your body from head to toe. When you add more lean muscle to your frame, your metabolism increases even more. That means you'll burn more body fat, even while at rest” end …show more content…
quote.
• Thesis Statement: Roadmap of Main Points in the Body- Body: Many healthy benefits come from building muscle, while I talk you through 3 of what I feel to be the three greater benefits I hope you will think about your own body and how building muscle could help you.
• 1st Main Point: My first point is how muscle will increase your capabilities; o Subpoint A: With strength comes self-sufficiency, which contributes to a healthy lifestyle and confidence. o Subpoint B: With capable muscles, it easier for people to do simple task around the house such as opening your own pickle jars, rearrange your furniture, or just being able to carry those heavy grocery bags from the car to your kitchen. o Subpoint C: It even benefits you as you age, when you become older you can maintain you independence by building muscle strength, allowing yourself to live alone longer and with out the aid of a nurse or caretaker.
Transition: As you get older there is always concern about your long term health, this leads into my second point: and that is the protection against chronic diseases.
• 2nd Main Point: The Protection against Chronic Diseases o Subpoint A: When you increase your muscle mass, you are changing your body composition, which in result will lower your body fat percentage. o Subpoint B: By lowering your body-fat percentage, this can reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, elevated triglycerides, cholesterol and increased blood sugar levels, which can lead to type 2 diabetes. o Subpoint C: The American Council on Exercise reports: “people who engage in strength training are also better able to cope with the effects of osteoarthritis”.
Transition: Now for my last point, that gives me the most satisfaction from building muscle is how it helps with weight management.
• 3rd Main Point: Weight Management o Subpoint A: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you may increase your metabolism by up to 15 percent just by building
muscle. o Subpoint B: Muscle burns calories through out the entire day, rather than just during your work out. For example, when you build muscle your body has to continue to burn calories on order to maintain the muscle. o Subpoint C: When you burn more calories, you can eat more without gaining weight, or lose weight faster on a reduced-calorie diet.
Transition to Conclusion: Summary of Main Points- In conclusion I discussed three benefits to lifting weights, the first was how building muscle can increase your capabilities in your day to day routines, second was how building muscle can be a protection against chronic diseases and third my most favorite benefit was how muscle can help with weight management, all while eating the foods that you love. Now that you know the benefits of building muscle I want to challenge you to engage in a strength-training activity, I am not suggesting anyone to become some crazy body builder, but I am challenging you to be more aware of how building muscle can benefit you. You can try works outs such as lifting weights, using exercise bands, performing yoga or if any of that sounds to difficult or time consuming you could stick to staying at home and just perform a few crunches, pushups and lunges.
