Building Relationships Because young children lives are fixated in their communities and families, teachers need to be able to understand and apply building family and community relationships. Successful early childhood teachers are required to have a strong understanding of family structures, home language, cultural values, and community resources affect children and their families (Workshop Teacher Handout: From - Building Family and Community Relationship, 2002). The purpose of this paper is to provide you with some of the resources that are available in Goldsboro, NC and how they will be presented to the families. There are community resources such as health benefits, assistance for children with disabilities, mental health, domestic violence, and substance abuse agencies that reaps great benefits for families that need it. By developing a trusting relationship, you are better able to provide families guidance concerning personal issues, even through those turbulent times they think no one cares. First, is a health benefit that is available for everyone to apply at the Department of Health and Human Services. Based upon eligible they will be able to provide you with the appropriate health choice that is free or one low yearly payment for your child, or both to receive healthcare services. Many families are either too ashamed or too proud to ask for help. Thus resulting in near death experience or a visit from social service visit regarding their child’s health. Going to the local Health Department to gather information based on information provided and putting the information in the child’s folder to take home. Not only does Goldsboro help those unfortunate, but goes the distance by providing assistance for children with disabilities. There is a mayor’s committee for persons with disabilities that
