The misconceptions about eating disorders is that many people will believe that people that are affected by the disorder are doing it for the attention, or base the appearance of someone who has the eating disorder with an ill-looking, thin person; bulimia afflict individuals of all shapes and sizes. The biggest misconceptions about bulimia is that assumption that the person afflicted with bulimia is struggling because they have self-control.
Family and friends of bulimics need to show compassion, support and also they need to keep in mind that their loved ones is in a fragile state meaning they should not upset
them. Avoid insults, scare tactics, guilt trips because bulimia is often caused by stress and low self-esteem, negativity will only make the situation much worse. They should immediately take them to medical help and treatment. While eating disorder remains misunderstood, progress is now being made, and public awareness about it is increasing and also with the increase level of understanding, we can shed more light on the issue in the near future.
