Besides asking about agents, would-be writers query published authors about writing techniques. Many questions deal with whether to write with a computer or by long hand. 3. The “Celebration of Books” offers panel discussions on a variety of topics, including memoir writings, poetry development, and techniques of plotting short stories. Other panels cover writing the western novel and true crime stories. 4. The “Celebration of Books” appeals to readers, many of whom can see their favorite authors in person speaking on a panel and in more informal setting such as receptions and book signings. Fans of authors greatly enjoy such opportunities. 5. In addition to writers, many well-known writers and musicians are honored at the “Celebration of Books.” Its Advisory Board recommended this expansion years ago to widen the conferences appeal.

(1) B.B. King, the great blues guitarist and singer, born Riley B. King in Itta Bena, Mississippi; began his working life as a share cropper and tractor driver. He earned one dollar per day at a plantation owed by Johnson Barrett in Indianola, Mississippi. (2) As a side venture to his farm work, King sang with the excellent St. John’s Gospel Singers. He wanted the group to leave Mississippi to find riches and recognition in the music world. (3C) In 1946, King left the group, he had tried very hard to urge them to go with him. (4) King was working hard all day in Mr. Barrett’s fields, driving a tractor; he always returned to the barn at the end of the day jumping off of the tractor to the ground. (5) One day, the sudden movement made the tractor charge ahead and break off its exhaust stack; King had already turned off the engine.
