The Deputy Director serves as Director in the absence of the Director and is meant to oversee FBI activities in intelligence and foreign affairs. The Deputy Director also oversee the Special Agents in Charge, or SACs, which are basically some of the top agents that the FBI has. The 5 branch leaders that the Deputy Director oversees are the Executive Assistant Director for Intelligence Branch, Executive Assistant Director for National Security Branch, Associate Executive Assistant Director for National Security Branch, Executive Assistant Director for Criminal, Cyber, Response and Services Branch, and the Executive Assistant Director for Science and Technology Branch. The Executive Assistant Director for Intelligence branch is in charge of overseeing the gathering of intelligence and use of it through the bureau. The Executive Assistant Director for National Security Branch and Associate Executive Assistant Director for National Security Branch are in charge of ensuring that no threats to the U.S. exist by gathering intel on other nations and preventing other groups from obtaining information of the U.S. that could prove vital. Due to the sheer size, and massive amounts of divisions and structure, it is common for the laborers to be seen as easily replaceable, as previously stated. Typically, larger organizations don’t provide as much attention to every single member, as there are far too many to track. Another problem with the FBI is the amount of power that is held within it. It is a bureau that has vast amounts of access to information and with the massive size of the bureau, the possibility of corruption is always present. While there are no incidents of corruption being apparent, the possibility of corruption occurring and a leak of all the knowledge at the FBI’s disposal is ever present. Due to the way it is operated, the FBI is always susceptible to possible exposure of information, tyrannical use of power, and impersonal ways of handling matters with lower level employees. Along with this, bureaucracies typically follow very strict rules that can slow progress when completing things, such as with the massive amounts of paperwork that must be filled out and limit employees, as they are forced to work under those strict rules and can’t explore their own methods. Despite the problems with the FBI as a bureaucracy, it is successful at maintaining national security and is necessary in preserving the freedom and safety of the citizens of the United
