Competitive sports are inadequate for children and parent pressure is a big factor as to why competitive sports are bad. The pressure applied on children can create physical and emotional burnout. Parents are one of the main contributors towards pressure. They have a mindset that makes them believe that winning is more important than having fun. Parents push their kids so much, even with injuries, that more children obtain even more serious or permanent damage. All these reasons are big factors as to why a lot of kids to stop playing sports. Physical and emotional burn-out is considered a disease in competitive sports. More and more kids are getting burned-out from all the pressure on their shoulders from their parents, team members, and friends. When burned out or in the process, an athlete’s performance will decrease. Getting burned-out will make your performance in sports go down, and it will cause your grades in school to decrease. Mark Hyman says in his book, “Every year 3.5 million children under the age of 15 require medical treatment for sports injuries, nearly 50% of which are the result of simple overuse.” Many children are getting seriously injured because their parents are pushing too hard so that they can get better in sports. Competitive sports are bad for children. A child’s health should come first and foremost, and some parents just cannot see that and pressure their kids to the edge. The pressure can cause emotional and physical burnout. Many kids drop out of sports because the pressure their parents put on them is just too much to handle. And some parents pressure their children with serious injuries which could create permanent damage. Children just aren't cut out to play competitive sports if their parents are going to pressure them to win.
