You cover your mouth with your hand, but it's too late. The people at the next table in the lunchroom already heard. As you turn back to your soda, you think: Where did that burp come from?
A burp — sometimes called a belch — is nothing but gas. When you eat or drink, you don't just swallow food or liquid. You also swallow air at the same time. The air we breathe contains gases, like nitrogen (say: ny-truh-jen) and oxygen (say: ahk-sih-jen).
Sometimes when you swallow these gases, they need to get out. That's where burping comes in! Extra gas is forced out of the stomach, up through the esophagus (say: ih-sah-fuh-gus, the tube for food that connects the back of the throat to the stomach), and out of the mouth as a burp.
Some kids find that drinking soda or other carbonated beverages makes them burp more. Can you guess why? If you're thinking that it's because these drinks contain extra gas, you're right! The gas that makes the drinks fizzy is carbon dioxide (say: kar-bon dy-ahk-side), another gas that can bring on big burps. Sometimes eating or drinking too fast can make a person burp because this can send extra air into the stomach. The same thing happens when you drink through a straw: extra air in = more burps out.
Burping is almost never anything to worry about. Everybody does it at least once in a while, and it's very unusual for burping to mean something is wrong in a kid's body.
It seems like the only people who can get away with really loud burps are little babies — their parents cheer when they burp because it means that the babies won't feel the extra gas in their stomachs and cry. But unless you're tiny and bald, it's probably a good idea to be polite when it's time to burp.
So what can you do if you're around people and you feel a burp coming on? Try to burp quietly and cover your mouth. Of course, whether your burp is loud or quiet, saying "excuse me" can't hurt either.
Belching is also known as burping and refers to the eruption of gas from the digestive tract through the mouth. It is accompanied by a specific sound in the throat and may also cause bad odor. The factors responsible for causing belching are the production of excessive gas in the stomach due to intake of gas producing substances such as beer, raw fruits, aerated drinks, grapes, apples and swallowing to much of air due to chewing gum, eating or drinking too fast, smoking and sucking on a candy. Excessive belching is a very embarrassing condition, especially when done in public.
Belching or burping is also medically known as ructus, it is a process of releasing gas from the digestive tract through the mouth. A typical sound or odor may also accompany the process of gas release. Belching is a common universal phenomenon and not limited to few with any specific disorder. Infants to older adults burp or belch to expel air that has been swallowed in excess. Belching relieves the discomfort of the abdomen caused due to the excess air.
Belching can also form as a habit to some people and such belching or burping may not be related to the accumulation of air in their stomachs. Instinctually people resort to belching on account of ease the existing discomfort and any form of abdominal discomfort to expel gas. Burping Sounds and a type of odor accompanying burping are some of the symptoms of burping. Eating or drinking too fast and stomach full such that excessive air is swallowed in the process.
Consumption of carbonated drinks like beer, soft drinks, and champagne may cause burping in which case the gas released is from the drink itself. Certain known disorders such as Gastroesophageal reflux disease may cause involuntary burping. Some established eating habits lead to burping as a sign of completing a meal.
Eating slowly or have small meals are a good remedy for belching.
Avoiding chewing gum and carbonated drinks as it will become the cause for belching.
Excessive consumption of chocolates and onions may also cause burping, avoid such foods.
The main reason that people burp a lot is that they are encountering problems with their gastric function. There are major reasons for why you're burping a lot and today I'll discuss these as well as how to stop burping for good. You might be surprised to know that belching is often a symptom of a greater problem going on that you may not be aware of.
Why you just can't stop burping?
The main reason for this is a problem with your stomach to effectively process foods without creating excess gas in the process. This often comes down to 3 things enzyme production, stomach acid levels and excessive fermentation further in the digestive tract.
Enzymes: When not produced in great enough quantities your will encounter indigestion and as a result many symptoms such as burping, gas, and much more. What you may not realize is that this can also be a sign of mal-absorption problems developing in your body.
Stomach Acid: Often people drink too much in the way of liquids with their meals, this dilutes stomach acid and actually causes significant digestive stress as the body must work very quickly to create more stomach acid to break down food entering the stomach. This can cause digestive issues such as burping to arise.
Excessive Fermentation: This is the creation of gas in the digestive tract which causes bloating but it can also cause bloating. Here's how, when gas is created in the body it must be released, the only ways out are through the mouth and the rectum. Many times people with burping issues will also encounter gas quite frequently. If this sounds like you then it's very likely that the cause for all this gas is the fermentation created by a yeast known as candida albicans.
This yeast exists in well over 90% of the population, although not all suffer symptoms from it, as well symptoms often vary quite a great amount. Many people do have symptoms as a result of it however, the sad thing is the modern medical profession does not identify candida as a threat to a persons health until it's often too late or far too severe to easily rectify! The interesting thing for people who burp a lot is that candida interferes directly with digestive enzyme production as well as stomach acid production!
So who often has a problem with candida?
If you have ever taken a course of antibiotics, a prescription drug, eat a diet high in sugar or processed foods or have fewer than 2 bowel movements per day then you are very likely to be at risk.
The best course of action is to first take a candida test or questionnaire to determine how many symptoms you're currently experiencing that could be candida related. If you are indicated as experiencing symptoms due to a candida overgrowth then it's a good idea to start modifying your current diet to a candida diet amongst some other changes in order to eliminate it and any other health symptoms you may be experiencing such as chronic burping. * Then one day we had a big argument and I thought right that's it, I burped sooooo loud that we just both burst out laughing and forgot about the arguing, and since then I don't have a problem with burping in front of him LOL..." * "So you can imagine her dismay finding her daughter burping so loudly that you can hear it in another room..." * "She grew up back in the day when girls wore dresses everyday and, from what I understand, thought it was rude to even blow your nose in public..."

During the pharyngeal stage of swallowing, it was observed that the patient exhibits reduced hyoid elevation, reduced airway protection, and reduced passive movement of the epiglottis. The patient had a total of three swallows. It was observed during the first swallow that there was a delayed timing of laryngeal elevation. The delayed timing of laryngeal elevation also caused a delay in epiglottic movement. In a typical swallow, the epiglottis folds down to protect the airway. However, the epiglottis did not fold down completely when the patient completed the second swallow. It was also observed that…

The beginning of the digestive process starts with the smell and sight of food which activate the salivary glands. The mouth is the point at which food enters the digestive tract and continues the digestive process by chewing food. The food is then broken down into pieces and moistened by salivary glands which turn food into a bolus. The bolus goes down the pharynx into the esophagus which connects the pharynx to the stomach. The stomach is an organ that mixes food and secretes gastric juice. The bolus, once in the stomach, is mixed into a semiliquid mass called chime. The stomach is close together with the liver and pancreas but does not get assistance from these organs. The chime then enters…

When a human sees or smells food the salivary glands are the first thing to react in the digestive system. Once the food is placed into the mouth, it is then taken over by the teeth, tongue, and saliva. These three are what help make the food moist and small enough to be swallowed. At this point the food then becomes what is called bolus. The bolus is then traveled through the pharynx then esophagus, and into the stomach. When the food travels through the pharynx, the epiglottis makes sure that the food paces by the without interring the lungs. Once the bolus enters the stomach, it is then broken down even further by the acids within the stomach. The bolus becomes a little more digested before leaving the stomach. Once the food is at this stage, it is then called Chyme. Chyme is a semiliquid food. It normally leaves the stomach within two to six hours. The small intestine is what does most of the digesting and takes the nutrients from the food. It has help from the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. The small intestine is made up of three parts, these parts are called, the jejunum, the ileum, and the duodenum. Anything that is not taken for nutrients in the small intestine goes to the large intestine. At this time it travels through what is called the sphincter. The sphincter prevents any of the food to go back into the small…

every part of the gastrointestinal tract is designed to help in the digestive process in a specific way. The mouth is involved in chewing also know as masticating. The purpose is to break down food into small enough pieces to pass through the esophagus and enter the stomach. The food is moistened with saliva helping turning it into bolus in order to turn initiate the digestion of food. The esophagus is a tube like muscle which use contractions to pass food from the mouth into the stomach it does not help with the digestive or absorptive function. The stomach acts like a sort of storage depot for food, but also acts as a place in which mechanical and chemical breakdown of food happens. The small intestine absorbs water, electrolytes, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Whereas the large intestine is where the food matter and water that can’t be absorbed is the formed into stools. According to Cornell University Law School" (2010), “plea bargains are agreements between defendants and prosecutors where defendants agree to plead guilty to some or all of the charges against them in exchange for concessions from the prosecutors” (para. 1). Plea bargains allows for prosecutors and judges to focus their time on more important cases. The way plea-bargains work with prosecutors is reducing or dismissing certain crimes committed by the defendant. The defendants part in a plea bargain is to give up information about the crimes committed, such as where were stolen goods are hid and how the crime was committed. The defendant may also have to confess to other crimes, turn in other defendants, and testify in court. In some jurisdictions prosecutors and defendants work with judges to work out a sentence for the crime committed. The judge always has the last say and rules on what he or she wants, but in federal courts, unlike other courts the judge does not have to take recommendations from the prosecution. Plea bargains have become somewhat controversial among society. Individuals believe that plea bargains allow criminals to get off easy with the crimes they committed. Just because a defendant is willing to confess about his or her crimes, it does not erase the harm and inconvenience it has caused the innocent individuals involved. Therefore, a defendant can only plead guilty to a crime and cannot plead or try to prove their innocence.…
