Burpo Family: A Short Story
The Burpo family was having a difficult year with money problems. Todd, Colton’s father, is the main source of money. Todd is a pastor and he installs garage doors as a side business to supplement the church income as well as their own. In one year Todd had to battled cancer and a severe leg break. After he recovered he and his wife, Sonja, decided to turn a church conference into a family vacation so the family could get away.
Right before Todd's wife was about to drive the kids to meet their father on vacation, their three-year-old son Colton was showing signs of the flu. He quickly got better and the family was able to travel as planned. While the family was on vacation they did a lot of exploring of different animals. At one museum there

Colton couldn’t stop throwing up and he soon became tired and not like his self at all. The family rushed to their home town to get medical care for Colton, but he kept getting worse. After seeing several doctors, they found out that his appendix has ruptured and poison was filling Colton’s stomach, for 5 days. After a few setbacks, Colton has a miraculous recovery.
A few months after his recovery, Colton began to make strange comments, and the family eventually realizes that he saw heaven, while he was in surgery. At first the parents couldn’t believe him, but as months and years went by, he continued to tell them about Jesus and what heaven was like. Colton talked about things that he couldn’t have known at his age. He describes the thrones, Jesus, and all the angels. Colton said he met his sister he never knew he had. Who was a child that Sonja had miscarriage with. He even knew about Pop, Todd's grandfather, who had died before Colton was born. At that point in time was when his parents knew he wasn’t lying about heaven and they believed everything that Colton said.
At the end of the book you learn more about how the family is doing and that Colton is a normal kid living an amazing life. Heaven is for Real is a book about 3 year old Colton Burpo, who went to heaven and came

    The Brice family consisted of a family unit of five. The father Davie a lawyer, the mother Caroline, their teenage daughter Claudia, the younger daughter Laura and younger son Don. The family was referred by a psychiatrist who had been seeing Claudia, but felt the whole family needed to be in therapy. The first session was a challenge, the family agreed to go in all together only for the initial session and they were not very comfortable to begin with. The mother Caroline felt the problem that should be address was the issues their teen daughter was having and she did not believe the entire family should be there. Both the mother and daughter came in angry to the therapy session and there was a lot of tension in the room. The father was respectful and stated he was happy to be there, but his body language told the therapist he has not comfortable being there. The youngest daughter Laura seemed to be in a cheerful mood with high energy. The youngest son Don did not show up for the first session.
