A Case Study of Space Age Furniture
Introduction
Space Age Furniture manufactures tables and cabinets for microwave ovens and portable televisions. Both cabinetry styles comes in various sizes offering a number of features however; the basic construction follows the same production and assembly. The focus will be on two types of cabinets; the Saturn which is utilized to house microwaves and the Gemini television stand. Both of these cabinet types require a part which is referred to as part 3079. In order to produce part 3079, a skilled machinist is required to program and stand watch on a special lathe. The skilled machinist, Ed Szewczak, is unhappy because of the increase in overtime to produce part 3079 due to the implementation of material requirement planning (MRP) system. Space Age Furniture has adopted the MRP system in order to reduce storage cost. The estimated storage cost for specifically part 3079 is $1.50 per week for the Saturn microwave stand and $1.25 per week for the Gemini television stand therefore; the part is produced when needed and Space Age Furniture does not want to have an abundance of parts on hand. The master schedule for producing the Saturn and Gemini cabinets is illustrated in Table 1.

Part 3079 is used in subassemblies no. 435, which is used in the Gemini television stand and no. 257 used for the Saturn microwave stand. In each subassembly one of part 3079 is used, and only one of each subassembly is used in the final product. Even though, the lathe is only used to product part 3079, Space Age Furniture determined the subassemblies will only be produced in quantities of 1000 minimally (Vonderembse & White, 2013, Chap. 9).

The government could have placed tighter constraints on the credit market; the government agencies charged with managing banking policies and procedures could’ve formulated a policy that would require that banks were only able to hedge a certain amount of liability as long as they had enough capital to cover double the amount of the liability. The government could also have placed more stringent regulations on banks and related financial institutions to provide proof that the potential buyers of homes could fiscally make the required home/mortgage payments in lieu of the poor economy. This could have been accomplished by verifying their credit score, annual salary, and reviewing 6-12 months of the potential homeowner’s financial statements to ensure their candidacy and responsibility. Another regulation that could have averted the 2008 credit disaster would be requiring all potential home buyers to take a financial course that included content covering how to read legal contracts” or something similar. Yes, this additional step would prolong the home buying process but in the long run it would potentially weed out the vast majority of homeowners that would likely default on their mortgages.…

The reader-response appeal to literature relies on the reader’s ability to process the information being shared rather than the author or the text itself. With the reader-response, a person reads text and then relates to automatic explanations about life that are triggered moment by moment as they continue to read. The literature uses triggers that the reader’s nervous system spontaneously responds to. This type of approach to reading allows people to imagine and be creative within them. It allows the reader to hear, feel and smell what they are reading as if it were happening right now in front of them.…
