Topic: Which characteristics did of the Ottoman Empire did de Busbecq and Machiavelli admire?
There were many characteristics to be admired about the Ottoman Empire. Niccolo Machiavelli admired the way the kingdom was ran, while Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq admired the ways of the people.
Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq admired the characteristics of the people of the Ottoman Empire. He mostly admired the Janissaries, they would give him small bouquets of flowers and in return he would give them coins. The way they approached him is one thing he admired about them, the Janissaries would bow and touch his hand or dress, and when they left they would thank him and bless him for his kindness not turning their backs as they went back. Machiavelli compares the Turk to the King of France, he compares the set ups of the ruling and how easy it would be to conquer them. He admires the way the government is set up in the Ottoman Empire. He admires the setup due to the fact that it is harder to conquer the empire, with the power spread out it is harder to conquer and defeat all the powers. Yet he does say that if one was to ever get a hold of the kingdom it would be easy to rule. That can be seen as an admiration depending on the perspective of who was looking at it. Honestly there was not much that Niccolo Machiavelli admired than the setup of the Ottoman Empire, and the setup of the government.
Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq and Niccolo Machiavelli both admired characteristics of the Ottoman Empire. One admired the setup, while the other admired the characteristics of the people. And in all honesty one could see why de Busbecq admired the Janissaries, due to the fact that their actions that were described are pretty
