will have the hardest transition going back to civilization Charleston, South Carolina
He has been enjoying learning the new traditions and ways of aboriginal by Bush Boy.
“Peter followed the bush boy slavishly, copying his every move.” (page 19, chapter 6). This is an evidence of himself trying to become an uncivilized boy. Mary was thought by her parents that white people like Mary and Peter doesn’t need help from a negro, “and strangely enough the Aboriginal seemed to be understanding- and answering-his questions. Peter had decided to learn the black boy’s language”(page.29, chapter 12).“They were carrying at least a dozen each; and they were, Mary suddenly noticed both of them quite naked, she picked up her brother’s shorts from beside the edge of the billabong”(page 21 chapter 7). Mary tells Peter to put his clothes on because it isn't civilized for them to do. Peter replies with, “Gee! I don’t need no clothes.” (page 21 chapter 7). Mary insisted that Peter puts on his clothes but Peter refused. In Mary’s mind it is very uncivilized to not have clothes on. As Peter put in more effort to learn the language and action of an Aboriginal the more he betrays their tradition and becomes harder to go back to the civilized rules and orals. Just think of it as a puppy and its owner. The owner train the little puppy in a different kind of way than other trainers, then when the puppy have to get a new home, it is hard for the puppy to transition to the needs or attitude of the new owner because of the things he learned in a young age. been through new ways of living and surviving in tough ways. Peter has shown no sign of civilization in his interest.
“Peter drew koalas, lizards, and Jesus brids:symbol of new life. “page 54“But Mary drew girls faces framed with glamorous hairstyle, dress design that might have come out of Vogue and strings of jewels like the Fifth Avenue advertisement: Symbol of the +life that was the past” As Mary shows the interest of getting home and being back in civilization. Peter drew what he has learned and he was used too for the past weeks. Why would a little kid want to change if he isn’t interested in
changing?
Being in the wild for a very long time changed Peter’s perspective on how he sees life and how he had forgotten the hectic and fast, dependent life of civilization. “Peter had jibed at the idea of home-making.’Gee, Mary,’he’d said,’what we wanna house for? If it rain, we can shelter in the forest.” (page 51. chapter 17).Peter didn’t take a second thought of the way a person would live as civilized. He insisted living in the natures creation than man made home. Peter will have a hard time transitioning from being in the wild to civilization. Peter shown that civilization is not in his interest, also he had adapted to the tradition and culture of the Aboriginals in the wild and the primitive life of the natives. He is becoming more attached to the wild as he gains more knowledge about his surroundings and as they adapt more to a primitive life he loses more interest to going back to a normal life.
