On August 12, 2011 the life of Mark Lornas and Thomas Waycross two employee at the manufacturing company in Hamilton, Iowa will forever change. A shop floor dispute left one employee died and the other charged with second-degree murder. Around 2.00pm police responded to a report of a fight between two employees. When the Hamilton Police Department Violent Crime Unit arrived they found thirty year old Mark Lornas seriously injured. Three hours later he succumbs to his injury and died at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Thomas Waycross was charged with second-degree murder. Up on investigation the police learned that the two did not have a good working relationship. Thomas Waycross was described as having a tough “Rambo-type” personality. Even though management knows about the ongoing feud they did not but get along or quit. Violence takes on many forms. It can be a threat of force, shove, or fistfight. In extreme cases, it can involve the use of a gun. Whatever the form, it’s potentially dangerous. Even the bully who intimidates is a threat of sorts. These situations create low morale and damage productivity. They can also be costly to the company due to a lawsuit brought on by the victim of the violence.
