Essay
Protecting environment means to save the surroundings in which we are living or working. In recent years business has been grown consistently through out the world. However it has created many opportunities for the individuals and it played a vital role in the establishment of society. If we see the relation of business with the environment, then we will find that business is a part of environment. It is the responsibility of corporations to protect the environment in which they are working. We can see effects on the environment due to the industrial revolution such as global warming and pollution. Earning profit is not just the obligation of the business but to save the environment in which they are working . Business ethics tells us about the social responsibilities of firms (Encyclopaedia of Business,2nd ed). Thus protecting the environment is the responsibility of Government but with the government it is the responsibility of Business to protect the environment. Protecting the environment is very critical. We are living in this environment . It would affect us if it is not safe. When the environment in which we are living is not clean then it will create problems for us. There are several environmental problems like air pollution , water pollution, noise pollution. These pollutions can cause many diseases and it also effect ozone layer. Diseases cause by pollution are cancer , Hepatitis , breathing problems, eating problems and etceteras . It is report that 11 deaths has been caused by environmental issues and 29000 die every year and there life expectancy become shortened in last 6 months( Chooper (ed),10 april 2014, Air pollution linked to one in 12 deaths in London – and it takes six months off the average Briton's life expectancy,http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/air-pollution-reduces-life-expectancy-by-six-months-for-every-briton-9251260.html). So protecting the environment will prevent the deaths caused by environment With the advantage in business there are some disadvantage and the one of biggest disadvantage of business is environmental issues that have been take place due to industries and factories. Industries waste different kind of chemicals that create land pollution as well as water pollution it can be solid or semi solid and industries such as paper mills, plastic manufacture, steel mills ,chemical companies ,textile manufactures and oil refineries produce huge amount of waste that cause environmental problems. ( Sen (ed), What are some example of hazardous waste, http://www.ehow.com/list_6232241_examples-hazardous-waste_.html#ixzz2yWvj4gNJ). Similarly corporations creating energy through fossil fuels are also causing environmental issues like air pollution and problems like acid rain and land degradation. So with the opportunities in business we can find problems as well. Now the question that a raise here is Why is this the responsibility of Business to protect the environment . The answer is It is moral responsibility of corporations to protect the environment and also business ethic teaches us to be a socially responsible. However it is duty of companies that creates environmental problems such as pollution to find a solution of this problem and to find a suitable way to protect the environment. Businesses are also part of this environment . So it is necessary for the firms to make a team which suggest them what actions wouldn’t effect the environment. What more they can do is to heir a consultants and environmental friendly companies that would help the organisations to save the environment. Some articles tells us that it is not the responsibility of firms to protect the environment because the purpose of firms are just to make profit and not to protect the environment. for protecting the environment Government should take actions ( Encyclopaedia of business, (ed) 2 , exhibit 1). Similarly if one company undertake social responsibility and the competitors don’t that would be disadvantage for the company who assume social responsibility (Encyclopaedia of business, (ed) 2 , exhibit 1). Similarly corporations pay heavy tax to the governments and pay huge amount in the compensation of environmental problems causes by them . BP has set claims to deals with the problems cause by them to the environment ( peterson (ed), BP's Gulf of Mexico compensation costs 'jeopardising' the company,>>http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22547971). So when companies are compensating for the loss then it is the responsibility of government to protect the environment because they have compensation amount to recover the environmental loss . Similarly heavy amount of tax government take from people so it is their responsibility to protect the environment.
Business should protect the environment by signing the agreements made by federal government in protecting the environment. They can also defend an environment by setting up the industries out of population are to minimise noise and sound pollution. Being part of the environment Businesses should initiate projects in protecting the environment such as planting trees and cleaning beaches.
