Menu Foods was the largest maker of wet cat and dog food in North America, and the company was identified as a supermarket, pet product retailer or wholesaler. In 2007, Menu Foods was part of a recall of up to 100 brands and 60 million cans of pet food, which was the largest pet food recall in history. On March 15th. 2007, the FDA, the Food and Drug Administration, initiated the pet food recall. But not until April did the FDA announce that it was an ingredient, wheat gluten imported from China that contained the melamine which led to a kidney failure. This contaminated food caused 100 pets to die by the end of March and caused nearly 500 kidney failures. Menu Foods’ crisis communication was ineffective in three ways: first, Menu Foods did not institute a product recall until March 16, 2007, 24 hours after the FDA initiated it, which demonstrated that Menu Foods lacked a quick response to the crisis; second, its CEO, Paul Henderson, lacked clarity in answering questions during the investigation, which demonstrated that Menu Foods lacked transparency; third, Menu Foods did not apologize to the public, which demonstrated a lack of concern and sympathy for the victims of the crisis.…

For my networking assignment, I decided to pick the restaurant and retail industries out of the three industries I had in mind. I have always been curious about working in both industries and the management of it. In this assignment, I interviewed seven different people that were found through personal connections. I got to interview four restaurant owners, a market owner and a general manager, and an owner of two gift shops. By doing these interviews, I learned how to write and adjust my questions based on each interviewee. Each interview was from thirty minutes to an hour long. I learned a lot from the restaurant owners and retailers, and I also got to try some deliciously food. I was nervous before conducting each of my interviews, but it…

Soups have always been very popular among Canadians. Recent study showed that level of consumption of soups in Canada has increased and is showing a steady growth. Calculations say that on average each Canadian consumes up to 85 soups a year (Stefanac). According to Canadian Grocer, soup consumption is very high among people over 45 years old (Stefanac). But recently, soup industry could see a growth of the consumption among so called Generation Y which represent group of people of 18-34 years old (Stefanac). While soup consumption has been growing, the exact opposite was happening to canned soups in terms of sales. Over the past five years, the sale of soup in a can has declined significantly due to people favoring fresh and natural soups. Freshly made soups are being sold in supermarkets and restaurants due to the increase in demand for natural products. The soup industry has become more and more competitive over the years and more brands, and flavors of soup have been introduced to the market. Campbell's, known as the world's largest soup makers, have put efforts into changing packaging, to innovate their products and attracts more consumers. In Canada, researchers discovered that Campbell’s canned soup to be recorded as being consumed 23 times in 2002 to 16 times in 2012 (Warhol). Homemade soup has remained steady over the years claimed to be consumed 29-31 times a year per average Canadian (Warhol). Another change in the soup industry is the affect…
