The talk was held Last Friday at AGSB auditorium. The discussion focused on Business continuity management system or BCMS by Mr Regaldo. PARR(Presidential Assistant Recovery Rehabilitation) . The other speakers were Ms Jimenez and Philippine Red Cross Chair former Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon. The talks were informative particularly on how the Philippine government responds to calamities to alleviate and/or the at least reduce the risks particularly but not limited to another catastrophe of the magnitude of typhoon Yolanda, specially in Tacloban and Leyte where its devastating effects were most felt. For me the presentation that struck me the most was the BCMS, which will be discussed below.
The talk for me gave us critical information that are essential to the success, growth and survival of any business. It stressed that the private sector must be well equipped and they must develop their strength and capabilities to meet with calamities and other forces of nature to ensure their survival. BCMS deals with uncertainties, identifies physical and potential threats and how to mitigate the impacts to its operations. During the talk I came to know that 50% of businesses do not have BCMS incorporated in the systems or control plan and that only 14% either failed or refused to adapt one as a result of varying perceptions, financial problems and such other non-financial issues, among others. We are currently experiencing globally erratic nature, environment, and climate change, among others that seriously affected businesses. To name other few, increased vulnerability and power and energy outages, epidemic/pandemic exportations that hurt human resources in countries, which thereby likewise hurt revenues of businesses.
