After speaking with employees about some tattoo ideas or an idea you already have, they’ll personally recommend an artist that they think would do the best job or they give you the option to look at an artist’s tattoo book and you can look through and through their thousands of drawings and tattoos they have done over the years. Many of the artists have over 10 years of tattooing experience and have done thousands of tattoos and are covered in them as well.…

Throughout the past thirty or so years, the human body began to show originality, not through bone structure, but through personality. Wilham and Bulark (2003) believe sixty five percent of adults (18+) in the United States chose to add originality to their skin. This form of art is called tattooing. The process of tattooing is described by Mirriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (2003) as, "to mark or color (the skin) by pricking in coloring matter so as to form indelible marks or pictures." Even though originality may seem ideal, there is a controversy over whether getting tattooed or to worry about the stereotype of promised disease, infection, and easy fading. The question is, why would a person allow an unknown individual to place foreign inks into their skin, with sharp needles? The answer lies in the tattoo parlors that shape our body modified world, and the god/goddess if the shop, the tattoo artist.…

Tattooing has flourished into a full artistic medium that is taking the world by storm with its endless variety of techniques and abilities to do just about anything as a tattoo design. “With the tattoo profession being gradually taken over by experienced artists, we are seeing many modern illustrative styles being tattooed, from comic book art to futuristic computer-generated designs. Classic painters; Such as Van Gogh and Dali, are being painstakingly interpreted on skin alongside modern masters such as Alex Grey and H.R. Ginger. In less than a century, tattooing has evolved to encompass every conceivable style of art” (Hope).…

A lot of times people get a lot of bad impressions on a tattoo shop because of what they do, but everyone is different. Becoming a tattoo artist is a process, I remember asking Jay-Jay what inspired him to become a tattoo artist and I remember his answer as if it was just a day ago that I talked to him “ I was always an artist, boredom got the best of me” Doing tattoos is something that grows on people and they’re job isn’t as easy as many people including myself picture it. “I once sat for 9 hours doing a tattoo, but I loved it” That serious punk-rock mean impression I’ve had on tattoo parlors is no longer there. It was small, dull, and sad looking on the outside but on the inside is a world of freedom and color. Everybody always needs a little color in their…

It seems that no matter where one goes today, it is impossible to escape the reality that body art, in the form of tattooing, has become an integral part of our culture and society. Although tattoos once had a reputation as part of the “undesirable” class in American society, as they were typically associated with the biker and criminal milieu, tattoos have experienced a resurgence in popularity over the past decade. As numerous celebrities have begun to utilize tattoos as a means of expressing their personal style, so too have many Americans followed suit. The image of the young rebel male looking to rebuke society by having his flesh permanently adorned with art has faded and given way to a new culture of 20, 30 and 40 somethings, and beyond, of all walks of life choosing to express themselves through the art of tattoo.…

On October fifth, one of the most interesting art events caught my attention. The event name was called “Body Art Expo Tucson”, located at the Body Art Expo Tucson, which is no too far away a drive for my friends and me. As this event named called, it is one hundred percent related to the art of human body, it included human naked drawing; body painting and the biggest hit of the event: tattooing. Since the event was early in the morning, all those drawing and tattoos absolutely gave me tremendous eye impacts. In general, those black and white figure drawings were my favorites, though those elegant lines and elaborate details, it is not hard to see how much efforts and sweat these artists put in the drawing. Besides those exquisite drawings,…

Unfortunately in many businesses, having a visible tattoo is deemed “unprofessional” and hinders many people from job opportunities. “With private employers, employment decisions can be based on any factor they desire, as long as it does not run contrary to any specific law” (Elzwieg, Peeples). Heavily tattooed people sometimes come at risk of not getting a job desired. There have been many cases where a person…

Today, 36 percent of Americans aged 18-25 have at least one tattoo, according to a report done by the Pew Research Center. That’s more than one third of America’s young adults! It comes as no surprise that the tattoo industry is the sixth fastest-growing retail business in America, as determined by the U.S. News & World Report. This has obviously translated to online interest as well, as there are more than 147 million tattoo related searches each month on Google.…

The young man waited in uneasy anticipation while the artist prepared his tools. Rapid short breaths were making the young man’s heart pound even faster as doubts circled in his mind: “Maybe I shouldn’t go through with this.” “Should I say something?” "What am I getting myself into?" Even though the young man was still undecided about actually going through with it, the artist prepared his arm for the havoc that was about to begin. “Relax,” said the artist. “It never hurts as bad as you think.” As he brought the needles up to the skin, the young man heard the faint buzz of the machine. The tiny needles began puncturing his skin; he flinched at first, but found that the pain wasn’t as excruciating as he had originally thought. The artist began to work his magic. It was as if he was painting a picture on the young man’s arm. After about 45 minutes, the artist stopped, admired his work and exclaimed, “There you go, son. You now have a tattoo.” The young man looked at his arm, and through the blood and swelling, he could see the image he had chosen. He had now joined the ranks of many people who are turning their bodies into human canvases. In fact, over the last decade there has been a sharp increase in the number of people that are getting tattoos. Since the art of tattooing has become so popular, the reasons people are getting them are changing, the risks are becoming more controversial, and tattoo removal has become more common.…

In the year since I turned 18, I have accumulated 6 tattoos. It’s an addicting, permanent, beautiful art form that I love to see both in idea books and on bodies. Some people see tattoos as either “trashy” or unprofessional, but they don’t stop to look at how much time, effort, practice, and talent goes into both designing and drawing them up, and transferring them onto a living, breathing human being.…
