1. The equation specifying that Performance = Ability X Support X Effort is known as the individual performance equation. Using this equation explain the exceptional performance that is required of and exhibited by the craftsmen at Steinway.
- The exceptional performance that is required of and exhibited by the craftsmen at Steinway is demonstrated by the following:
a) Ability – The highly craftsmen still follow the manufacturing techniques back from 1853 and spend more than year to complete along with incorporating more than a 1,000 details in a Steinway piano which makes them stand out from their competitors.
b) Support – Steinway pianos are created in various parts. The process begins with the creation of the inner and outer piano rims known as the piano case which gives the grand pianos their distinctive shape, second process is the sound board which is formed by hand that is expertly tapered by the craftsmen, third process is the wooden brace that is assembled to fit within the piano case along with support, the fourth process is the installation of piano wires and the formation of felt hammers and finally the last process is inserting the keyboard onto the finely crafted grand piano. Therefore without the support and united work of each and every skilled craftsman at Steinway & Sons, it would be impossible for them to produce such exceptional and world renowned grand pianos.
Effort – Without the dedication and effort of each Steinway craftsmen, it wouldn’t be possible for them to create such grand pianos as it takes almost a year to make each piano along with putting in each and every of the more than a 1,000 details of every grand piano.
