RS651 Business Project Guidelines
Preliminary Steps (not to be included in the final product):
Annotated Bibliography (Submitted in RS600)
Proposal (Completed in RS600)
Outline for Business Project (Started in RS600)
Business Project Summary Components: Your entire summary should be at least 15-20 pages, which will vary depending upon the scope of the project and the supporting documents in appendices. Your research should be supported by at least 15 credible resources.
Executive Summary: This will probably be written last; it is approximately a 1 page snap shot of your entire project.
Narrative: The narrative includes the following underlined sections and is approximately 10 pages in total.
INTRODUCTION (project overview)
Describe the general topic area
Discuss why this topic is relevant/important (importance to sociologists, to the broader community, etc.)
Identify the specific scope of your research interest
LITERATURE REVIEW
The literature review should be a well-organized overview of the research most closely related to your work.
This might likely include the dominant debates, theoretical approaches, methodological research designs that have been used to understand your topic.

You are trying to demonstrate two things:

1. You are familiar with the research that has been done in this area and can explain to professionals who might not be familiar with this specific literature, what is out there.

2. You have found a gap or “lacunae” in the literature…something that has not been well researched or has not been researched utilizing a certain theoretical perspective or methodological design.
ASSESSMENT OF CURRENT SITUATION/PRODUCT/NEED
Includes discussions on financial, marketing/communication, and internal/external regulatory or legal considerations
SUMMARY OF RESEARCH STEPS, INTERVIEWS, INFORMATION OBTAINED

METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN
Identify your research design (experimental, cross-sectional, longitudinal, case study, comparative)

A literature review is not an annotated bibliography in which you summarize briefly each article that you have reviewed. While a summary of what you have read is contained within the literature review, it goes well beyond merely summarizing professional literature. It focuses on a specific topic of interest to you and includes a critical analysis of the relationship among different works, and relating this research to your work. It may be written as a stand-alone paper or to provide a theoretical framework and rationale for a research study (such as a thesis or dissertation).…
