A pillbug also known as a roly-poly is a small land creature that is often found in many areas around the world. They prefer moist areas often living in soil, under rocks, and dead logs. The pillbug which is an isopod begins its life as a tiny egg and as it grows it sheds its old exoskeleton 4 to 5 times. A pillbug consists of three basic body parts, the head, thorax, and the abdomen. Pillbugs eat decaying plants and animals as well as some living plants. The purpose of this experiment was to learn how to demonstrate the scientific method and to learn if pillbugs are attracted to cornstarch. In this experiment I hypothesize that if a pillbug is exposed to cornstarch and sand then the pillbug will spend more time near the…

This hands-on laboratory exercise is a highly simplified model that attempts to simulate evolution by means of natural selection. Predators will act as agents of selection on their prey, a species whose members vary in color. We will assume that color is an inherited trait. Small squares of paper will represent the prey, which will be spread out of a piece of printed colored fabric that will serve as the habitat. The predators (you) will prey upon the population, with the surviving members reproducing and passing along the genes for color.…

Boo is innocence in most likely its purest form in the novel. He never did anything truly wrong, unlike other characters like Bob Ewell. Boo didn't do all the terrible things he was accused of, like eating animals, and yet he became a subject of torment from Maycomb's children because of the past he had suffered. Boo is introduced early in the novel by Lee as being “...about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks;…

Hatch was born & raised on W. Garfield St., a poor neighborhood in South Side Baton Rouge (SSB). It was notorious for drugs and violence, a place feared by the general population. Boosie grew up with his mom and dad who nicknamed him after the '70s funk legend, Bootsy Collins. Although being raised by both of his parents was a rarity in his neighborhood, Boosie still struggled with dysfunction inside and outside of his home. Around the time he was starting high school, Boosie decided to come clean on wax about some of the trouble he was getting into, "I started rapping on tracks when I was like 14 or 15, I was rapping before that but I just didn 't let anybody know 'cause I thought I wasn 't good enough." At fourteen years old, Boosie moved in to live with his grandmother after his father was murdered in drug-related activity. [2] Boosie became very involved in basketball to stay off the streets while attending high school and was actually expected to move on to college level basketball, but his involvement with drugs got him expelled from school. After being expelled from school, Boosie became serious about his music. Consequently, Boosie 's residency in Baton Rouge, which lacked a music scene, disadvantaged him from creating a diverse set of contacts and subsequently a lack of exposure. A mutual friend of Boosie and local rapper, C-Loc, introduced the two and before Boosie knew it, he was recording his homemade raps in a professional studio.…

Bombus affinis do not have an internal skeleton, but poses an exoskeleton; an exoskeleton is a hard-outer shell that provides support and protection. The exoskeleton also helps to regulate water loss and limit the size of insect growth. The exoskeleton is made up of a composite called chitin. Chitin is a chemical relative of glycogen and cellulose. The exoskeleton is made up of three parts called the epidermis, basement membrane, and the cuticle. The cuticle is the part of the exoskeleton where most chitin concentrations occur. Bumblebee wings are formed of the same material as the rest of the exoskeleton; bumblebees have four wings with the two rear wings being small and usually attached to the front wings by a row of hooks. This occasionally…

Not all of us can have a great escape with that fairy child in our dreams. In Chapter 1 part II of the satirical phenomenon, Babbitt, by Sinclair Lewis; he really gives you something to ponder. In the previous section Lewis had just ended saying how the city of Zenith was “built-it seemed- for giants”, putting this city on a pedestal for its community. This statement is already mocking the citizens of Zenith who are materialistic middle-classmen, like Babbitt. Ironically enough, Babbitt is anything but a giant- as Sinclair himself says “There was nothing of the giant in the aspect of the man who was beginning to awaken.” By saying this, a juxtaposition is established, giving note to how infinitesimal Babbitt is. Babbitt just aspires to be more of a “typical” middle-class man. For example, it is pointed out that he is sleeping on the porch of a Dutch Colonial house. In his society, to most middle-class people, this was an amenity. The beginning of this passage is most likely to set the scene to portray the “tired, overworked business-man”, which when you get to know Babbitt, he is truly just a “want to be”. Throughout the passage Babbitt is described as a wrinkly and stout man. “He made nothing in particular, neither butter nor shoes nor poetry”, all of this goes into showing how utterly dull he was; he wasn’t the least bit creative, and just his look overall was uninteresting. Also, “prosperous” is used one of the many times that it will be used throughout the novel. Sinclair makes a point in using it so much because that’s almost all of what these rich men in Zenith care about, being prosperous. Take notice to what he says before “prosperous” though, “seemed”. Why does he do this? Lewis does this quite frequently. It’s almost putting doubt in everything he says after it. “He seemed prosperous, extremely married, and unromantic”, it almost makes every word symbolize being fake, which “altogether unromantic [fake] appeared…

As I traveled through the Tropical Rainforest I Have discovered a new species that I call Gribbles. They are based on the creature’s Gremlins. They are small animals no bigger than 6 in as an adult. They travel through flight and they reach the adult weight of 4 pounds. I followed this creature to study its behavioral and structural adaptations, I discovered that this creature has very slimy skin so it doesn’t get dehydrated like most plants and animals in the rainforeat. The gribbles have large black eyes to observe water. They also have very large ears for listening for very small noises because the rainforest is so expanded. The gribbles have extra nostrils to smell for poisonous plants and bugs. Gribbles have wings to escape the water that gets too high for its little 6in body. Their 6 in bodies keep them from being miaken as a plant or tree. They also have long tails to reach the very high objects. Three behavioral adaptions in a gribble are being able to change colors to protect its self from the birds that prey on the gribbles. They can also wrap there tail around a high tree and cuddle with it to sleep. Last but not least Gribbles pee right where they are when they get scared. The reason my critter is still alive today is because of the salamador. When the salamanders were becoming extinct the gribbles were beginning to be born; I guess one salamander was evolving in to a gribble and gave birth to our little friend here. He belongs to the species of gribbles, he lives in a tropical rain forest, he produces camouflage, sleeps on trees and he pees when he’s scared…and his name is…

This video was very informative as well as interesting to watch! One thing I found interesting is how when they are testing baboons and found that dominant baboons did not experience stress such as, high levels of blood pressure as much as the baboons that were below the dominant baboons whom experience high levels of stress. Another interesting fact about the video is how they are talking and showing proven research on how stress can negatively affect you’re health such as; causing ulcers in the stomach, high blood-pressure can increase the risk for a heart-attack. Another thing I found interesting was how, they are checking the baboons brains (top baboon and lower baboon in the chain) and found that in the lower baboons, the dopamine levels were dull whereas, the top baboon had bright dopamine. Lastly, I thought it was interesting how the video talks about how “we in humans don’t value in stress reduction yet value…

Have you ever wondered how the birds might have started flying? Who their ancestors were? There are approximately 10,000 species in the whole world and they all have evolved from something. They all have ancestors which we never looked at or wanted to learn about. There are many hypotheses about why and how the wings and the flight evolved over the years. Some hypotheses about how wings might have evolved are they evolved from arms used to capture small prey, evolved from gliding ancestors who began to flap their gliding structures to create thrust. The hypotheses that is most supported is the gliding as it’s reasonable.…
