Thanks for the offer. I am not aware of who else is running for the delegation, but cannot imagine a better choice.
Mail delivery by camel is long gone in my neck of the woods (desert) and use of the Internet has replaced ineffecient communications like post and smoke signals. The world is changing at a fast pace and most of us do not live like Homer Simpson and work a 9-5 job that consists of checking the mail on a daily basis.
A wise old man once told me that "you have to embrace change. Change or die." It sounds a little extreme and probably taken from the teachings of Darwin. Nevertheless, he is correct. Our Bylaws must keep up with the needs of our Union or we will be caught out.
I do live in a place very far from
Wilmington, Ohio and Miami, but there are others like me who go weeks or months without having the opportunity to regularly check mail. Nowadays, almost everything can be done via the Internet including voting in US elections and paying credit card bills. It is time for Union to embrace change. If we are opposed by organizations such as the DOL, DOJ etc., our trusted servants with 1224 and the Teamsters are responsible for making sure that we have the best outcome by advocating change. We would be fooloish to expect less than that.
