Cafp Meals Reflection
I serve the food of the center provide. I encourage the children to eat their breakfast, lunch, and snacks. CACFP promotes school-readiness by providing nutritious meals - programs may serve up to two meals and one snack per day - that aid children’s cognitive and physical development. Studies show that CACFP meals are nutritionally superior to those served to children in child care settings that don’t participate in the program. The program can also supplement the budgets of low-income families and child development providers. The menu is from Business Food Solution. I feel as if it tries to give a variety and different combinations daily.

CS Ia- Upon reviewing the weekly menu I found that the menu was well balanced with all the components included. They offer a wide variety of proteins, vegetables, and fruits as well as a daily serving of dairy and starch. However, I found the menu to not be very child friendly. If I were in charge of the menu I would offer a more child friendly menu to the children with items that they are more likely to eat while still keeping the meals healthy. I would add entrees such as spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, sandwiches and ravioli’s. I would also try and offer more common vegetables to the children like corn, green beans, broccoli and carrots. Another change I would make is to switch up the starch a little and offer them brown rice and potatoes.…

“For a significant number of Americans, the cost of an additional meal for two school-age children for the eight weeks of summer vacation seems like a small fortune”. this really makes me sad simply for the fact that some people are really hard times right now. some parents struggle and don't seek help simply because of the perceived stigma or sign of shame or disgrace. But I believe that no matter what happens later on in life I will do everything in my power to put a meal in my child's stomach.…

According to the Iowa Department of Education website, there are 200 students attending the Paton-Churdan K-12 School in the 2016-2017 school year. Paton-Churdan is located in the small, rural town of Churdan, about 13 miles north of Jefferson. Of the 200 students, about 3.5% are Hispanic, 5.5% are multiracial, and 1.5% is Asian, making Caucasian the largest group at 89.5%. In looking at these percentages, it is easy to see that we do not fit into the idea of a diverse culture. However, we do have a large group of students who are found on the Free and Reduced Lunch program. There are 92 students who qualify for this program, close to half of the student population. According to the Iowa State University-Iowa School District Profiles, during…

Recently there has been revisions to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and schools were required to overhaul their entire menus to provide the students with healthy and nutritious foods including fruits and vegetables. The new school lunch rules are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which has been implemented this fall. (Post Standard) The Hunger Act allows the USDA the opportunity to make reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs. With these revisions come strict guidelines from the federal government that each school district must follow in order to receive funding and reimbursement (National School Lunch Program, 2012, August p. 1). In this essay i will be comparing the positive and negative effects of these recent revisions to the NSLP. I will then discuss whether or not these changes are beneficial to the children receiving the meal and whether NSLP is leaving children hungry or helping children make healthy food choices.…

I did not design the lunch menu for my center; however, I serve it to my children on a daily basis. We use the CRMC food service, which has many benefits. One positive aspect is that there is no extra cost to the center, and enough food is delivered daily so that each child is served the appropriate proportions. My center works with the hospital to create a “short cycle menu,” a menu that is different everyday and repeats itself after a certain number of days, specifically a one-week cycle menu that is chosen by our director with faculty input. This cycle menu shows strengths because the children seem to enjoy a shorter cycle of fewer foods, and our director is able to control the menu to ensure that quality foods are served. The food served each day includes the food groups required for a balanced diet with whole milk. None of the meals contain potential choking hazards and all food is cut with food scissors for my age group. Each month, our center updates our allergy alert sheet, which is posted in every classroom. The staff complies to each child’s needs everyday at lunch and snack. I would not change my centers lunch menu because it promotes a healthy diet, meets their nutritional needs, and the children like it.…

In 1946, President Harry Truman established the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), a federally assisted meal program designed to offer healthy, low-cost meals to students in public and not-for-profit schools. The program, operated through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), offers participating school districts reimbursement for the meals they serve, allowing schools to offer free or reduced lunches to qualifying students. However, in order to receive reimbursement, foodservice programs must adhere to strict nutritional guidelines set forth by the USDA. As of 2010, schools must follow additional requirements established by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, signed by President Barack Obama, which increased the ratio of fruits, vegetables and proteins that must be included in school lunches. While…
