Her and Beowulf fall in love, the poem never mentioned a queen that he is taken with and have a love affair with. Beowulf never married Hrothgar’s wife when he died. Another big difference is in the climax of the movie where Hrothgar bestows his throne upon Beowulf then commits suicide because the curse of Grendel's mother is no longer upon him but on Beowulf. Which is completely different than the epic because Beowulf goes to his homeland and becomes king there. A very noticeable difference is Grendel one of the main monster in the epic. The purpose for Grendel attacking the Mead is that the Danes were sending their praises to God and reading scripture from the book of Genesis, located in the Bible. But the purpose for Grendel in the movie is because the king, hosted a rambunctious party located in the mead hall. Grendel with his exposed eardrum were greatly affected by the loud noise the mead hall was producing. In the epic Grendel’s Mom is slain by Beowulf, but in the movie Beowulf has a sexual relationship with her and he lets her live which produces an dishonorable eir to Beowulf, just like the king Hrothgar whose son is Grendel.
The comparisons between the epic poem and the movie produced are scarce but the main plot is mostly kept where Beowulf goes to the land of the Danes and slays Grendel and at the end of the Epic Beowulf slays the dragon and bestows his thrown to the most honorable
