Can the color affect your mood? “Colors are the smiles of nature.”

Leigh Hunt 1) .The effect that color has on our lives is probably underestimated. Particular colors remind us of certain things and in some situation may influence our moods or attitudes Many psychologists believe that colors are associated with a number of ideas and feelings which affect our behavior and the way we respond to our environment. We already know that smells, tastes, touch and sounds all cause emotional reaction. It now seems that color is another such stimulus which creates an emotional response in our minds. Psychologists have recently made some interesting discoveries. Seeing the color red stimulates the heat and nervous system. Therefore, red could be used to help people with low blood pressure. Green and blue are generally relaxing, peaceful colors which could be used to promote a calm atmosphere, but dark tones of green and blues cause sadder, more serious emotional responses and should be avoided. White is bright and puts pressure on the eyes, but, mixed with strong colors, it can lessen the effect they have. People such as designers are making use of this knowledge to benefit the generally public. When deciding on the interior designs public buildings, they have started to choose color schemes that will stimulate positive feelings, such as a sense of comfort and relaxation.
Libraries, bus station and schools are obvious place where color could make a positive
contribution to the environment. For example, a classroom which is painted light green or blue is a more motivating place to study in than one which is painted in darker colors. Hospitals are another place where color can be used to good effect. For example, rooms can be painted with different colors to help patients cope with different medical conditions.
