United States foreign relations with Canada is proven to be one the the best profound mutually beneficial partnerships in the world. From defense cooperation to trade, and investment both countries are working together to continue a prosperous relationship unmatched by any other country. The Obama administration reports that “The United States and Canada share the goal of enhancing shared prosperity, creating jobs, protecting workers and the environment, and promoting sustainable economic development”. Although both countries took decades to establish trust and a positive outlook on relationship development, political leaders on both sides eventually realized the endless possibilities and the potential revenue gain both countries can take advantage of. This is why the United states should continue diplomatic relations with Canada primarily because of political, environmental, and economical factors.
The relationship between the United States and Canada hasn’t always been stable. Before the united states developed In the beginning there was no bilateral agreement, no value, and no balance. The British Empire controlled Canada’s policies and procedures without regard to any neighboring countries. Top priorities are to reduce greenhouse gases and come back climate change on both sides of the Border. The protection extends to shared waterways.The U.S. and Canada also work diligently to protect the waterways between the border. The International Joint Commission is a water treaty established between the U.S. and Canada in 1909 to enhance and protect water quality. Political leaders acknowledge that clean water is important to human life. In addition to the International Joint Commision act the U.S and Canada have teamed up to create and join more efforts for the protection of shared waterways. The U.S department of state reports that “The United States and Canada have hundreds of environmental partnerships at the local, state, and federal level. These include the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement to protect water quality and ecosystem health, and the Columbia River Treaty to jointly regulate and manage the Columbia River as it flows from British Columbia into the United States. The two countries cooperate on a range of bilateral fisheries issues and international high seas governance initiatives, and are both founding members of the Arctic Council”.
