The Advancement of Women’s Relations with the Canadian Government The Canadian government has been building better relations with Canadian women. Over the last century, women did not have the right to vote, let alone be considered a person in Canada. Women were unable to articulate their ideas fluently in Canada. Males were portrayed as more superior over women, which resulted in an insufferable relationship between women and the Canadian government. During the First World War, women were given the opportunity to contribute to Canada and work outside of their homes to replace the males who had to vacate their jobs for the war. After world war one, women fought long and hard for the right to enter the senate, a constitutional ruling took place
Firstly, the commitment shown by the famous five for women’s rights successfully achieved them a milestone for women in Canada. It came to pass that “in 1929, women acquired the right to exercise official functions to attend university and to practice a liberal trade” (“The Persons Case”). This victory gave women access to several opportunities in Canada, as this victory had females considered a person in Canada. This let females develop their lifestyles dramatically, and create a better future for themselves and their families. This gave women access to enter the Senate which was life changing for females that waited years for their voice to be heard. Therefore, this is a landmark decision for the lives all concerned, as this was the first stride for female development. In addition, this monumental moment opened doors for women to get more opportunities in the House of Commons, The Person’s Case had “opened the senate to women, enabling them to work for change in both the House of Commons and the Upper House” (Morrsion 22). The fight was predominantly to win women the right to enter the Senate and share their hidden voices in the Parliament. Females in Canada were finally given a chance to take on the responsibility of a position in the Parliament. Without this victory, they would not be given a voice neither a chance to give their righteous opinions in matters involving the
Women’s contributions in World War One opened several doors of possibilities for females as they got to fill in male’s positions and got the right to vote. The Person’s Case was a fight to give women the right to become senate, the famous five achieved this goal of giving women a chance in becoming senate. The Royal Commission on the Status of Women was a massive step taken by the government to end inequality for women by implementing recommendations filed by women. Women’s rights have had a major evolution throughout the years, without these events occurring the Canadian government’s relations with women would not stand where it currently does. These moments have changed the lives of females drastically and have shaped women’s lives in Canada
