Candles Monologue
Layla hears the door shut behind him as he runs out of the room. She says to herself, as tears role down her cheeks, “Everything will be okay, just get through tonight”. She hears the computer monitor turn on and the video game start to play. The rest of the night Layla spends tossing and turning, sleep just does not come easy for her after everything that’s happened tonight. She is almost paralyzed with fear that he will return yet again tonight. “What will happen if he returns?” “Will things escalate even further?” “Will I be able to stop him?” These thoughts are constantly running through her mind all night long. Maggie is always on her phone, she’s the type of person who would be talking to people while she’s on the toilet! At around 9 o’clock that night Maggie finally calls her friends back. She explains to her friends that her younger sister was in a car accident. Nothing too serious, but she wouldn’t be able to come over anymore. The girls wish her sister a speedy recovery and then go on with their night. Their night is filled with prank calls, typically 14 year girls, and lots of movies. 16 Candles is an all-time favorite for Ava and Layla’s, even though it’s an oldie! When she wakes up someone sliding their hand down her side. Layla realizes too late though, the person in the room earlier was not one of Ava’s younger brothers, but was in fact her older brother Tristan. As Layla roles over to get him to stop, she see’s his eyes. He isn’t going to stop. Now she is desperately trying to wake up her best friend Ava, but she is out for the night and there is no way she is waking up. Layla is paralyzed with fear at this point and can’t seem, to even move to make him stop. This goes on for what feels like hours. All of a sudden Ava starts to have a coughing fit. “Thank God”, is all Layla can think. Layla hears the door shut behind him as he runs out of the room. She walks upstairs, uses the bathroom, and sits down to watch Scooby Doo with Ava’s younger brothers. An hour later Ava still isn’t up, so she decides to go wake her up. The girls sit down and talk about last night and how much fun they had. Ava notices that Layla is acting weird so she asks, “Layla. Layla. Layla!” Ava finally has Layla’s attention. “What’s wrong?” ask Ava. Layla explains that she thinks her older brother was in the room last night.
