There are several programs that CPL offer. These programs: traditional service dogs, seizure alert, cardiac alert, diabetes alert, and companion dogs. Each service requires specified training for the dogs. Puppies are bred by a …show more content…
breading program on site. Volunteers will take the puppies in at 8 weeks and are required to care for them and teach them basic obedience and training commands. CPL also works with prisons, with a program called Prison Puppy Raising Program. The inmates are given the opportunity to work with the puppies and train them, like the volunteers do. The purpose of Prison Puppies is to help create a “softer environment” and to give the inmates a way to give back to their communities all while having a sense of accomplishment.
The program is committed to providing individuals with the perfect dog for their needs.
They take pride in making sure the dogs are trained specifically for the individual’s needs and that the pair will be a lifetime match. Currently they are only in a 250 mile radius of Cochranville, Pennsylvania, but their goal is to expand across the country.
CPL has a 5 year plan to expand their programing, making physical improvements to their current facilities, implementing a steadier financial platform, and recruiting more skillful board members. In order to expand their program nationally they plan to use positive media. They have had success in the past with popular media outlets.
The improvements to their facility may be a little more difficult for the program to achieve. With the want to expand nationally they will need a larger facility. Their current facility is not large enough to accommodate work space, visitor space, and a lunch room. At present they have people filling out paperwork, eating lunch, and applicants meeting with trainers all in the same room. The building in which they train the dogs does not have running water or a reliable heating and cooling system. These are changes that should be focused on prior to thinking about expanding their
program.
The program needs to take into consideration the dogs’ inconsistent levels of training. The program has noticed that in their second year of training that the dogs are all at different levels. The program needs to research why this is happening before they can proceed with an expansion and/or breed more puppies to train.
Working on enlisting new board members who are competent in finances, development, and marketing will be a key to their success. These board members should be able to come up with a more organized system to promote their program. Since the CPL is funded by donations alone, they will need more ways to bring in donations to meet their financial needs to move forward. They have had a 100% success rate in achieving their budget goals to date. If the company is able to continue meeting their new goals at a 100% rate they may be able to meet their goals. However, it appears there is a lot of work and time that needs to be put into the current facility, dog training, and members before they can begin an expansion. Five years to expand nationally does not seem feasible with the current tasks. These tasks should be completed prior to beginning a national program. Their concept of helping communities as well as prison communities is a commendable cause. Their website is filled with stories of success from individuals whose lives have been changed for the better. Taking the necessary steps to create a better program will indeed be worth it for the program, its members, and applicants in the ends.
