The pernambuco bow is a handcrafted bow made from Pau-Brasil trees. A selection of the trees that meet the standards are made into the bows. However, the supply is low because the trees are endangered, causing the price to go up.The pernambuco bow is made of heavier and denser wood than other bows. The wood has strength and responsiveness, and elasticity. The pernambuco’s camber(curve) is deeper. Many people suggest it should be used with intermediate and advanced instrumentalists because of it’s a higher quality bow appropriate for more advanced players.…

The American Staffordshire Terrier (also known as Pit Bull) is believed to be a man-eating beast. But is this breed all it's made out to be? The Pit Bull started in the Unites States; it has been developed since the early 1800's as a result of crosses between the bulldogs of that time and game terriers. Although the early ancestors of this breed came from England, the development of the American Staffordshire Terrier is the story of a truly American breed. This type of dog was instrumental in the success of farmers and settlers who developed this country. They were used for general farm work, hunting wild pigs, bears, and other large game, guarding the homestead, and general companionship. A number of the early ancestors were also developed for…
Hunters everywhere are presented with a number of challenges that arise with each hunt. Bow hunters are no exception to this. In most cases, bow hunters are faced with many more challenges than someone hunting with a firearm. Some challenges include the extensive preparation that has to be done before each hunt, as well as being cognizant and knowledgeable of all of the different types of each piece of equipment and knowing which to choose.…
This charity saves lives by showing their patients, either dog or human, that they are still loved no matter how lonely. Nonprofit charities are groups of devoted people and generous donators working together for the same cause. The Freedom Service Dogs of America is a foundation full of great people willing to donate their time for an amazing charitable body. Founded in 1987 by Michael and PJ Roche, the brothers strive for redemption of abandoned dogs and help for disabled people. Michael and PJ's idea was to rescue dogs and professionally train them for disabled people to make both the dog and person less lonely. Their charity saves about one-hundred dogs a year and have graduated three-hundred and fifty clients with their newly trained dogs. Freedom Service Dogs of America is an outstanding charity which Veterans Memorial Middle School should donate their earrings to because the foundation donates a hundred percent of their donations to their charity, enhance the life of their clients and provide lifetime support for suffering dogs.…
Should people be allowed to keep pit bull dogs? Pit bull dogs seem to come up in many news topics, and it always seems to be bad news. Nine times out of ten when a dog is in the news it seems to be bad mouthing pit bulls, the news never shows the good side to the breed, which there are a lot of good things about the dogs. As a owner and someone who know many people who own the breed, I strongly disagree. Every breed has the potential to be aggressive and will at some point have at least one instance that another breed will do something bad. I was skeptical about the breed when I was first given the puppy, but now I would never trade her for the world.…
Some people think that Pit Bulls are inherently vicious but that is not true, Pit Bulls are only vicious if someone makes them that way. There are not bad dogs, only bad people. A pit bull is not inherently vicious, if they are aggressive and attack, either the person most likely deserved it or they were trained to do so. Furthermore, Pit bulls are no more vicious than Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and other well known dogs. There was a recent study by the American Temperament Testing Society that tested 122 dog breeds and Pit Bulls had a passing score of 86.8%. Pit Bulls ranked fourth for the highest passing breed in this study. You are very unlikely to be fatally attacked by a Pit Bull. In fact, you are 60 times more likely to die from falling…
Animals should be able to play with each other because they have emotions. In Jeremy Rifkin’s article, “A Change of Heart about Animals”, he states that “studies on pigs show that they crave attention and are easily depressed if isolated”. This fact shows us that people don’t really care what animals go through. Some may argue that it…
Four paws, wagging tail, and cold wet nose, the image that comes to mind probably isn’t a Rottweiler, Doberman, or Pit Bull even though the description covers all dogs. Assuming you are like most people you associate those specific breeds with junkyards, heavy chain leashes, and flash of sharp white gnashing teeth. Have you ever been bitten by one of these breeds or had a negative encounter? Probably not, but just like so many other misconceptions provided by the media, you believe it. Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “Approximately 4.5 million dog bites occur each year in the United States.” (“Dog Bite Prevention”). There always seems to…
How would you feel if a pet you had since you were a child could no longer be by your side because the county you live in does not allow them anymore? This scenario is very possible due to the Breed Specific Legislation law (BSL). This law regulates which animals are not allowed in a certain area. BSL began in the 1980’s when the number of dog bites went up significantly in the U.S. As people noticed this trend, states began becoming stricter with their breed regulatory laws. The laws were really aimed at pit bull terriers and their mixes even though the law was supposed to be aimed at “dangerous dogs to society.” BSL is not limited to just dogs. Other animals are included in this…
People tend to believe that the Pit Bull is bred to be aggressive. In fact, in many parts of the world there are breed-specific legislations (BSL) that ban certain breeds of dogs all together and Pit Bulls are one of the most commonly banned breeds due to perceived aggressiveness. Surprisingly, there is no easy evidence that Pit Bulls are any more naturally aggressive toward humans than any other breed (West).A 20-year study conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) concluded that there is no way to determine aggressiveness by breed. “In fact, the CDC says its own 20-year study is not an appropriate tool for making breed-specific policies or legislative decisions (The Truth). Many owners speak…

An Anonymous author stated, “Pit bulls are beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, and all the virtues of man without the vices.” (Anonymous) As a Pit bull proprietor, I feel that Pit bulls are consistently confounded animals. In fact, any animal, pit bull or even a Chihuahua can be merciless or delicate. Additionally, adore and minding wins out with animals basically as it guarantees with individuals. Furthermore, affection is the item that makes a good or repulsive puppy and not their kind of breed or innate beautifying agents.…
The leaders of a dog pack are called the “alpha” male and the “alpha” female. They are usually the largest and strongest dogs in the pack, but packs may be as different from each other as individual dogs are different. A typical pack has an alpha male and an alpha female at the top, a lesser male and female in the middle called “beta” dogs, and less powerful dogs and pups at the bottom of the pack. (Alpha and beta are the letters A and B in the Greek alphabet.) Every member of a pack has a place or rank. Some wolves are higher and some are lower. This “dominance order” helps prevent fighting within the pack. When two dog in a pack have an argument, they may stick their ears and tails straight up, bare their teeth, and snarl at each other. Both dogs look fierce and ready to tear each other apart. But most times a dog of a lower rank will give up before a fight starts with a dog of a higher rank. To show that it has given up, the submissive dog will lower its position or roll over on its back, flattening its ears and putting its tail between its legs. This behavior seems to prevent the dominant dog from biting, so fights between pack members are usually settled without serious…
