Canisius Research Paper
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--The West Virginia University baseball team fell 7-5 in extra innings to Canisius on Tuesday at Monongalia County Ballpark.
The Mountaineers (12-9) and Golden Griffins (10-13) battled back-and-forth in the opening game of the two-game series before Canisius came away with the victory.

“I thought we had good at-bats, and offensively we did ok, it just seemed like the pitchers were afraid to throw it over the plate,” WVU coach Randy Mazey said. “If you’re a pitcher, you can’t get people out without them hitting the ball. I think we tried to get through the whole game without them ever hitting the ball.” Conner Dotson suffered the loss. He gave up one run on no hits while walking two in one inning on the mound.
BJ Myers got the start for the Mountaineers but pitched just two innings.

With two outs, Davis walked. Gray drilled a double off the left-center wall, scoring Davis and giving WVU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Gray advanced to third on a wild pitch, but Andrew Kneussle struck out freshman right fielder Darius Hill looking to end the inning.
Canisius responded in the fourth when freshman center fielder Mark McKenna singled to right field, scoring right fielder Adam Tricarico. Joseph Preziuso's triple down the right field line scored two more runs, giving the Golden Griffins a 3-1 lead.
The Mountaineers came fine back in the bottom half of the inning and tie the game at 3-all. Freshman second baseman Marques Inman led off the inning with a walk before junior first baseman Jackson Cramer drilled one to the left center gap to pull WVU within one. Huth's single through the left side moved Cramer to third and freshman catcher Ivan Vera's sacrifice fly to right field tied the game.
Canisius took the lead back in the fifth. The two-run inning started with a bases-loaded walk and ended with a

It wasn’t until late in the second period another goal was scored. Again, Cholowski assisted but this time Blake Winiecki stifled UMD perfectly placing the puck through Miska’s pads, putting the Huskies up 3-1. Next after peppering Driscoll, Dominic Toninato finally smashed the puck in with only 83 seconds left in period number two supplying UMD their second goal. Halfway through the third a crucial part of the game UMD defenseman Carson Soucy dashed his way down the ice on a breakaway letting go a ripper that shocked St Cloud State tying the 3-3. Then with only 5 minutes remaining forward Parker Mackay completed the stunning comeback by scoring UMD’s 4th goal of the game. SCSU made a majestic effort but came up short when after the Huskies pulled their goalie Carson Soucy swiped the puck in the empty net sealing the game with a Bulldogs 5-3 win. It’s the last game and we are warming up for the game. We were feeling super confident because we had just won the game before that. But as we see the other team we lost all of our confidence because they were all like 6’3 or taller. After warmups coach told us who was pitching and he said me. I was like what the heck I’m gonna get killed by these monsters. I was a squirmy as a warm cause I was excited to prove myself. As I’m warming up to pitch on the mound I was thinking of what pitches I was gonna throw. When the ump said batter up I knew that I was gonna have to pitch the ball low in the strike zone. The first pitch in the game I accidentally left the ball up and the kid whacked to the fence in the air. That was as fast as race cars start.…
