SHOULD IT BE ABOLISHED?
Capital punishment or the death penalty is a legal process whereby a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for a crime. The judicial decree that someone be punished in this manner is a death sentence, while the actual process of killing the person is an execution. Currently, 58 nations actively practise it, and 97 countries have abolished it.
The real question that arises is whether it should be abolished or not. People have various views and arguments regarding Capital Punishment. Some people think that it should be abolished while some think it should not be abolished. I find abolishing Capital Punishment more reasonable rather than practising it.
"A man who realizes his mistake and repents for it is a chastened man". Such people who realize and repent for their mistakes usually not only become law abiding citizens but also become social reformers. The society plays an important role in inciting the man towards crime and it owes him at least a chance to realize his part or full and improve. However, the capital punishment strikes at the very root of this possibility. Besides a true moral punishment is the self-realization of the crime by the criminal and the death sentence simply deprives a man the opportunity to receive one is really aggrieved party. The argument that the fear of death will suppress the murderous instinct in the potential killers has been empirically found to be untenable. A comparative analysis of the statistics of murders in countries having death penalty with which have no death penalty reveals that there is no difference between the two when compared.
Another argument for why capital punishment shouldn’t be allowed is that it is a contradiction. Every single human has the right to life. Even if they have committed hideous crimes such as murder, at their core they still are human beings even though the actions they undertook were deviant from the norm. It may be argued that a
