Unfortunately, in today's environment where world is growing faster both economically and socially. More social pressure is increasing in terms of unemployment, less purchasing power, scarcity of resources and so on so forth. Here chances of crimes or violence increase and tougher laws and punishments are enforced by states and in extreme case capital punishment.

In recent years more governments and states are abolishing the law of capital punishment. They believe that it is very inhuman to kill him/her just because he/she had committed a crime. Their view is of implementing tougher laws and their proper enforcement. Prior to giving capital punishment one has to think the reasons which has led the person to commit such a crime and for which he/she has been given capital punishment. For example, if a person kills another person just for food because he and his family were hungry from past several days. Here the state should be liable, which ultimately had to take care of that person and his family's basis necessity which of course was food. There should be strict transparent process of justification prior to awarding capital punishment, because it a matter of human life.

Nevertheless, one the other hand there are several heinous crimes for which capital punishment is the right way to stop or minimize them. In China, forgery of severe nature is a crime and if proved guilty capital punishment is awarded. Similarly in Saudi Arabia, if a person is caught red handed while having or taking drugs, a death penalty is awarded. By doing this an example has been set. This will help in minimizing crime rate of the same nature. Capital punishment also gives an indication that how bad a particular crime for which death penalty is given is seen by the state and how eager it is to minimize or stop it completely.

Capital punishment, a cruel and unusual punishment in the legal system, has long been an issue of controversy. While supporters hold that execution deters crime, opponents claim it is inhumane to deprive fellow men's life, whoever they are.

Admittedly, possibility exists that capital punishment may lead to miscarriage of jurisdiction by mistakenly executing innocent suspects. To make things even more complicated, political conspiracies have repeatedly pushed innocent victims to death in the name of jurisdiction. Take Socrates and Jesus Christ for example, both of them were imposed death sentence as dissents for violating the ruler's interest, but as is undeniable today, both of the two have made huge contributions to the human civilization.

However, these reasons mentioned above are inefficient to serve as evidence to abolish the capital punishment, because death penalty, despite its minor fault, plays a vital part in preserving the safe and security of the whole society. Not only can it ensure that the convicted criminal won't offend a second time, it is also regarded as the best "legalized revenge" to victims' family. The cost of life itself also poses as a threat to potential criminals, preventing them from harming the others. A society which imposes no more severe punishment than life imprisonment on murderers is one that perceives murder as a tolerable and unimportant issue, which is no doubt against human rights.

It is a contentious issue, whether or not capital punishment should be allowed in modern society. Many countries have already withdrawn death penalties. Still some countries are trying to retain it. There are many people having their opinion against and for death penalties. They have strong feelings on it.

People against it argue that, capital punishment is something irrevocable. We can devoid a man from his life, but we cannot give his life back. So, we do not have any rights to give such penalties, in fact, it violates human rights. Moreover, there is a saying that ' To err is human'. Hence, a man can make mistakes unintentionally.

In addition to this, the decision of a judge can change with change in perspective, and innocent people may be wrongly convicted. During 1970 in Britain, a group of people condemned for a crime, and 15 years later they released as the judgment was wrong. To add, every person should give a second chance so that they can get enough time for penance and can improve their lifestyle.

On the other hand, people who support capital punishment also have some reasons. They argue that, for some offences such as rape, murder, adultery, genocide the perpetrator should be condemned to death. There must not be any mercy for someone who commits a wrongdoing again after having a punishment. We can call him recidivist and such heinous offenses are beyond our endurance. Sometimes, misdeed has a contagious pattern, and it is a big problem in a developing country. People in such countries are mostly uneducated, and they do a big crime in tiny circumstances.

In the end I think, death penalties must be applied for certain offences. We cannot forgive a person who sets fire in a hospital containing a number of innocent patients. We surely cannot excuse a serial killer when he gets caught. Moreover, how can we forgive those people who tried to sell their motherland for money and still living among us? They are hardened people to rehabilitate. They are incorrigible. Death should be their ultimate destiny.
